Republican voters need a good communicator; they need a person with a solid conservative record on issues that matter .
,
.
We see how easy it is to get at each other’s throats over Giuliani’s lack of conservative stance on our issues.

If we don't get what we need, don't blame us for not working our hearts out for the candidate.

You got to have a leader and a good communicator. That is
“Julie-Annie”, but he is only half republican.

FYI: According to the flawed (i.e., slanted to the left) exit polls, the REPUBLICAN BASE did ‘show up’ for the 2006 election in almost the exact percentages as the 2004 election.

The difference in the 2006, 2004 and 2002 elections: LIBERALtarians! Approximately 2% of libertarians shifted their vote from the Republican to the Libertarian candidate in states like Missouri and N/S Dakota which cost Republicans two Senate seats . . . Allen’s implosion in Virginia (an example of the MSM’s ‘political’ power) cost a third.

House losses in 2006 were by VERY small margins and in keeping with typical off year elections for the party in power.

[FYI: Reagan’s Senate losses were more severe in 1986 and immediately lead to the Iran/Contra circus. President Bush is battling similar problems today.]

Republican voters need a good communicator;

I beg to differ. Republicans need a man of principle. A man that will say what he'll do and then do what he said he would do. These mealy mouthed moderates that are selling our country down the river need to be rounded up and shipped off to the Sahara for the duration of their miserable existence.

Of course this is just the opinion of most disenfranchised American voters and me.

A failure to vote is, in reality, a vote for your opponent. We never have candidates who are 100% to our liking, and rare is the once in a century leader like RWR.

In my opinion, you have correctly identified one Democrat strategy -- if not THE Democrat strategy.

It's all about discouraging the conservative base by driving wedges between them and the candidates.

Indeed, I believe that many of the attacks on Republican candidates on this forum have been generated by agents provocateur. Truly, it has been a season for "accentuating the negative...and eliminating the positive".

There are Republican candidates I prefer, others that I'd prefer not. That is a subject for my primary vote. But, once the nominee has been selected, whoever he is will have my full support against any and all Democrats.

Otherwise, I'd be doing what my enemy wanted me to do.

In elections as in wars, losing is never a good idea.

All the enemy has is hate. Let's make them choke on it.

“droves of conservative voters just stayed home”

How about backing this up with a source?

Just my opinion, but the conservatives of this country were convinced by the drive by media that the conservatives of this country were “not really” conservatives. Some bought it hook, line and sinker. Then, they stayed home, believing the liberal media’s take that conservatives weren’t conservative enough and what do we have now? A liberal congress.

Surely conservatives won’t be fooled again.

I do not disagree with you but you could go farther.

There may have been some conservative lag in voting but my perception is the Democrats won for two reasons last year. One, because they moderated their message to seem reasonable and in some cases actually put a conservative up for election. The second reason is the Democrats won the independent vote. They did that by damning Republicans as a party and attacked so much and so often that middle of the road voters figured if only ten percent of what they claimed was right, they would vote Democratic.

The primary key to our winning in 2008 will be having a candidate the independent middle will support. With the country being split roughly into thirds Dems, GOP and Independents, it is up to us to have a candidate that can draw out the base but also bring independent voters in for support.

The reason we need someone articulate with charisma is because whoever the GOP candidate is will have to fight both the media assault and the Democrat candidate who will escape scrutiny from the media and most voters. Plus, he will have to be someone who can motivate Republican elected officials to support him, and not distance themselves as many have done with President Bush.

Communicator is right; however, we need a solidly conservative person who has conviction behind his words. Not one who is a crook, thief, liar, etc. We have a terrible immigration problem and our President because of selfish interest or whatever will do nothing. We have the Iraq war; which we need to stay the course and keep our military first. We have a tax problem. We are tired of being robbed and forced to pay for everything because our leaders have bound us. We need to get all of government and whoever else out from trying to destroy the middle class and America. We need a person who will spend our money wisely and not steal it from us just because they can. We need to get rid of tort. Gosh, I could go on and on; but you get the picture.

I despise Rudy because of his abrasive attitude, his habit of taking credit for OTHER PEOPLES SUCCESSES, and the overall incompetance he exhibited during his second term as Mayor. Don’t get me started on the fact that his knowledge of foreign policy could be gleaned from reading a Chinese restaurant placemat.

Excellent post and analysis. The primary thing we need to realize is that democrats in power "are bad for our country" (paraphrasing a quote from radio host Dennis Prager). It is not good that we have only one political party capable of running the nation, but, that's the truth.

The democrats are irrational and dangerous. They are willing to put national security at risk, and cause harm to our troops in the middle of a war. I want a candidate who is going to fight back, and stand up for our nation, our beliefs, and most importantly our troops.

It was infuriating to hear Harry Reid's "lost the war" statement. What made it worse was the weak, timid, cowering, limp-wristed response of our side. The talking-barely-above-a-whisper response to our troops morale being once again attacked. I'm fed up. I wanted to see OUTRAGE! I wanted calls for his resignation.

Your article should be given to the repubs, and they need to listen to Rush Limbaugh. He suggested that hearings be called to look into to what traitor Pelosi said on her "Undermine the US military" visit to the enemy . He also suggested that president Bush veto the "Surrender October" bill , publicly, in prime time. He (Bush) could have taken the opportunity to explain why it would be bad i.e. Iraq would fall to mayhem and be taken over by Al Queda, become a terrorist haven, exc..

Were either of these suggestions taken? No. Nothing on Pelosi's treason tour. The Surrender bill was vetoed, with a short speech, but, at 2pm. No one saw it.

President Bush has given many great speeches, but who hears them? He won't use the Bully Pulpit, not even to support our military. It hurts me to say that. It's like we have a mute in the White House. Flying around the nation giving great speeches to small (compared to the total population) crowds, is not addressing the nation. It's not making people listen to what you have to say. It's not challenging liberals in the MSM by sitting down with them face to face and standing up for our side, and combating their continuous campaign of disinformation, and distortion about Iraq, exc..

If president Bush doesn't lead the way, and stand up for the Republican's with maximum enthusiasm and effort, I don't think we can win. God help us, if the dems take over the presidency, house and senate.

Whatever happens in '08- Our troops deserve nothing less than the 100% support of our elected officials. The dems are hurting them. There is such a thing as righteous anger. When are we going to see it?

I am betting on al Qaeda to do something dramatic and keep the GOP in power- so they have a worthy foe. Defeating the US with Rodham-Obama-BreckGirl in charge just wouldn’t even be a sporting event.
