Report: Kenya Airways 737 airliner crashes
Cameroon radio says missing plane carrying 115 went down in south
YAOUNDE, Cameroon - A Kenya Airways flight with more than 100 people aboard crashed in southern Cameroon, state radio reported Saturday.

Prayers for those on board and their families. Damn.
Statistically speaking, airplane travel is far safer than automobile travel. Over 50,000 Americans die every year on the nation’s roads and highways and many times that many are involved in accidents. Yet the rare plane crash continues to draw the big headlines.
Fascination usurps statistics when driven by MSM directive.

If its like most everything else done in Africa the plane probably hadnt had the oil changed in the last million miles.
Outside of the first world there are some really bad pilots, too.
Are there any statistics available on the survivability of a technical snag occurring in a car vs. that occurring in a plane? I'd wager the automobile is more survivable. The plane has far more critical components that are likely to fail, and likely to lead to a fatal disaster, as a result, should they happen, than the car. Like always, statistics can be designed to "favour" a viewpoint.
True enough. However, if you segregate the experience of the third world airlines particularly the sub saharan ones, the picture alters a lot.
There is so much corruption there that maintenance reports, spares, mechanics are all highly suspect.
IMO Cars are designed to be safe. Many millions have been spent in crash tests and safety devices.
Planes are designed to be light and to make money for the airline. The only safety feature is heavy maintenance to be sure they never crash.
Once a plane is assuredly headed for a crash the plan is for the passenger to lean forward and put his head between his legs, While there you can kiss you butt goodbye.
I know, lol!
It was actually a brand new Boeing 737-800, first flight was 09/10/2006.
That's the job of the MSM in their endeavors in informing the public.
I'd wager the automobile is more survivable.
Why?
The plane has far more critical components that are likely to fail, and likely to lead to a fatal disaster, as a result, should they happen, than the car.
That's why cars don't require annual, 100 hour, 200 hour, 300 hour, 600 hour, 1000, 1200 hour, 5000 hour, 10,000 hour tear down inspections and tractability guaranteed on every part replaced on them.
Like always, statistics can be designed to "favor" a viewpoint.
For starters, most often, you're worried about controlling motion in two dimensions in a car, instead of the additional headache of the third dimension, on a flying plane. Add to that the field of gravity...
What I'm trying to say is that one would have to take several times more rides on a car to meet with an accident statistically, than on a plane. People don't fly as much as they drive.
The plane crashed for crying out loud, don't don't blame humans living in Africa for what happened.
Humans weren't created with the ability to fly after all...
Speaking for yourself of course....
A plan not considered an option with time when one is traveling on the ground...
Well, most of us... :)
