There has always been a north/south dichotomy. New Englanders and New Yorkers have always looked down their noses at Southerners, and have made no effort to hide it.
The same divide exists between urban and rural societies, for that matter. It isn’t going to change any time soon.

Thompson’s team has got to be polling state by state. Thompson knows what his numbers are.

“But Rudy is a far better candidate than Thompson for the general election.”

Same people thought that Reagan was too conservative to win general elections.

This flys contrarily in the face of statistics that show the US population is moving in Southern USA and Jobs moving in the Southern USA.
Isn't it amazing how the MSM, Liberals, Democrats are the ones who make a big issue our of race ?

He’s a little premature putting the fork in Romney. What was that I heard about a debate?

“I also think that if Thompson enters the race, that there is virtually no chance that Newt Gingrich will also enter the race at a later date”

I agree with this.

Just as those here and the general public at large that would never vote for a 'mayor,' there are those that would never vote for a 'senator.'  No offense, Fred.

And good reason for it.  Kennedy had the corrupt Chicago machine that very well may have elected him, and aside from this there is no established precedent in American history that this is a good idea of installing a member of 'The Great Compromise' for POTUS.

Totally mystifying, Clinton, Dodd, McCain, Edwards, Obama, Biden, surprising that the electorate and the MSM view these misfits as reasonable candidates are so ignorant of history.

It's not from being from the south, the writer is beyond a dolt. Carter? Clinton? Bush?  What an idiot.

This person does not write for “the GOP”. “The GOP” is absolutely nowhere without the South. I don’t need Yankee bigots telling me to just shut up and vote for a Northeastern Liberal. Do they really think we Southerners are as obliging as blacks are to the Democrats? Our loyalty is with conservatism, not with the Republican party. Give me a Zell Miller, and I’ll vote Dem in a second!

I have always read articles on “American Thinker” with a jaundiced eye. I’ve always found that name to be rather presumptuous. The articles are always prolix but not necessarily the way you would expect conservatives to break.

I did a little research on Mr. Baehr. He threw in his lot with Giuliani back in June of last year. In this article he even tells Giuliani what argument he should make to appease conservatives - that he would appoint strict constructionist judges. Giuliani repeated this argument, practically verbatim, a couple of months ago. But does anyone actually believe him?

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2006/06/dont_bet_against_rudy.html

Another item about Mr. Baehr. He is a bigwig at AIPAC. I’m not sure how that factors in, but it’s worth mentioning. Lets just say that his interests are not necessarily the same as the interests of the USA or the GOP. He has an agenda.

I just love the way the Rudybots FEAR THE FRED! The more hits pieces they print, the more confident I become about FRED!

I am sure the country would like a person with a real Southern accent, and not people who fake them, like Hillary and Obama.

The fear of fred is strong in this one.

I think Thompson is by far the least likely of the 4 major GOP candidates to be elected if nominated, assuming he decides to run. This is due to one principal factor; his Southern roots. This is also one of several reasons why Newt Gingrich is almost certainly unelectable were he to be nominated.

hahahaha! good... let them think that... that's why John Kerry pretended that he could hunt, and started "talkin' likuh hunner, too."
