There has always been a north/south dichotomy. New Englanders and New Yorkers have always looked down their noses at Southerners, and have made no effort to hide it.
The same divide exists between urban and rural societies, for that matter. It isn’t going to change any time soon.

You are referring to to elitists.I grew up in Connecticut and find southerners friendly and polite, two things most people in the northeast are not.
