Then I will go back to my speculation that Putin isn’t Soviet, Gorbechev is.

Like I said and by the sources I quoted in comment #69, the only issue with the use of symbol was its presense on the Victory Banner, which is used during VE day celebration in Russia. Not the same as the flag used officially by active Russian armed forces today. The original article which started the thread confused the issue because the it would apparently lead to believe that the symbol was being adopted for official use by the Russian army today.

More to the point - that particular use of the symbol never really went away, it has been used in VE day celebration (during parades of the “historic” units) even during Yeltsin days. So even for this purpose it is not really being “brought back”, only codified into law.
