Hi Caroloinamom - dad was just starting his 8th week so he will be very relieved to come home on Tuesday which is VE Day and his birthday he will be 80 on Tuesday.

Thank you for calling it a flag so many call it the Union Jack including Brits it is only the Union Jack when on board ship. I remember my teacher at school who was into naval traditions telling us that and it really stuck with me.

Your President has a dual role of head of State and Head of the government administration our Queen is the head of State so if you think of the President’s State Duties then that is similar to her duties.

In addition she also officially opens Parliament and asks the leader of the party who gets the most seats in Parliament to form a new government. She reads and signs State papers in a similar way to the President does but she does not have the veto like your President does her role is purely ceremonial.

She also make visits in her role to various hospitals charity projects etc. She is also commander in chief of several of our service units. Other royals are commander in chief of other units. Hope this explains a bit.

This is a very precised explanation and I am sure royalist and constitutionalists would say I am slightly inaccurate in my explanation.

He is quite a few years older than her maybe he was not up to all that walking or maybe he was doing another engagement elsewhere.
