H.R. 1645 offers a path to legalization for all the 25 million plus illegals -- workers AND their families -- in the USA. The main requirements are that each applicant has to "touchback" in any country for a day, and then may return to the U.S. permanently with his or her family, provided he has not committed "three crimes or more".
Here is a cynic speaking, but the "touchback" requirement would soon, probably, be interpreted to mean visiting a consulate of ones choice. Mexican consulates are located in most U.S. metropolitan areas.
Also, the Bill includes a NEW Permanent "Guestworker" Program:
Under this plan, 400,000 "New" Workers would be admitted ANNUALLY, and the 400,000 cap could increase. Moreover, these New Workers could straightaway be put on a path to becoming citizens!
This Bill would also DOUBLE Employment based VISAS:
As if the above provisions of this Bill werent enough, the new H-2C Visa provisions of the Bill would raise the cap on employment Visas from 140,000/yr. to 290,000/yr. The CURRENT levels of Employment Visas already Depress Wages for American Workers by approximately $290 Billion annually, according to Harvard Professor (and first generation immigrant) Dr. George Borjas...
The U.S. passed the 300 million mark in 2000 and we are growing at about five million a year with 90% of that growth coming from legal and illegal immigration. We will exceed a population of one billion by 2075.
If you think we have problems now, just wait a few years when the energy shortfall hits and our standard of living drops off the cliff. If the American people dont take action and get rid of the elected subversives, the future is bleak.
I’ve given up on both major parties with this issue. The US government itself won’t enforce its own laws.
Moving over to the Constitution Party. Won’t win, but I’ll sleep better.
Our population is one reason that we are importing more and more food. As for immigrants, no one has answered the big question. How many migrants do we need? How many people does it take to pick lettuce? Whatever happened to a cap on others coming into this country. At one time, I believe, the cap was around 160,000 a year.
Business wants cheap labor and more consumers. Its grow at ANY cost & damn the consequences. The Dems want more votes. The Republicans are doing the bidding of the business buddies and don’t want to appear “mean” or “judgemental” (heaven forbid). I am certain that most Americans don’t support unfettered immigration, but this is being papered over by the MSM and the political class. Its a sad situation when no one in power wants to act in the national interest.
My friends think I’m crazy for wanting strict border enforcement. But one of these days, this issue is going to come home to roost, in spades, then we’ll see who the crazy one is...
There is a cap...
On educated people coming from Europe...the ones that have to wait for years...
Most immigrants since 1965 have been unskilled, uneducated people from 3rd world countries...
Just wait till something drastic happens in their neighborhood.....
I think the reason the leftists want all these immigrants in our country is to upset the balance of voters in favor of having a majority of people who either don’t want a democracy or are too ignorant to know that that is what the leftists want.
Almost EVERY night on I-75 in SE TN a van full of illegals are stopped by the local state highway officers or the coun ty sheriff’s deputy’s....
Right now they have to let them go...
Sorry, Lexington, Cincinnati and other points north...
I live in western KY, and we see a lot of them around here...
yah thanks for the heads up....we’re about inundated here in Columbus.
Don’t be fooled by the numbers.
According to Homeland Security up to 10 MILLION entered the country illegally just LAST YEAR ALONE.
God please help our poor country.
Give vision to those in charge.
The illegals say “Mr. Bush sez it’s ok”
Why do they have to let them go?
Ping of outrage!
OMG! Who wrote, sponsored and introduced this bill?
What do you want to bet W won’t veto this if it gets to his desk?
You have GOT to be kidding me. JHC!!! The country has lost when we allow 25 million CRIMINALS to freely come in. Bush you are a total waste. I regret voting for you.
Because they are not ICE and they cant ask about whether or not they are illegal aliens. 287g will change that but we dont have it yet...
