Mountain lion hunters in Colorado now must pass a proficiency test prior to obtaining a license after unanimous action Thursday by the Colorado Wildlife Commission.

The mandatory lion hunter education course, the first such requirement of lion hunters in the nation, is aimed at teaching prospective hunters how to differ between male and female lions and to prevent the overtake of female lions.

“This is a monumental decision,” said Wildlife Commission Chairman Tom Burke...“Other states are going to be looking at us and following our lead.”

I’ll just wait til they come in the yard, and try to eat the dog, and shoot ‘em.

Or, since I kinda hate that dog anyway, shoot ‘em after they have a good meal.

Thanks.

The mountain lion populations are growing across the nation.

Near Montrose, they have a wilderness study area where lion hunting is totally banned.

Allow lion hunting in CA and this problem will almost go away for Coloradans.

I had to take a course on swans before I could hunt swans in Utah...This does not seem like a big deal to me.

This is another way for the DOW to put their nose under the tent, raise some license money for themselves, provide a future way to raise more money thru fines...

Also local outfitters like this because it will keep ‘out of state’ outfitters and / or individuals from easily hunting in Colorado.

The course itself should not be a problem ( yet ).

I personally drop a rather nasty poison (you use two pair of gloves -— one set to take off the other set), a maskm and a loooog wooden Q-tip to smear the stuff on meat to “hunt” moutain lions at the ranch.

I actually had to register with Homeland Security to get the stuff this last time.

Metal traps work pretty well, too, but I caught some Joses in them trapsing across my ranch from Mexico.
