Two years after writing a law requiring highway "Welcome to Texas" signs to tout the state as the home of President Bush, state Rep. Ken Paxton today passed a bill that will remove the designation once the 43rd president leaves office.

Paxton, R-McKinney, says after Bush is out of office he "didn't see any reason to leave his name" on the signs. HB 693 was passed on the local and consent calendar today and now goes to the Senate. It will require that if any Texans become president in the future, that favorite son or daughter will be named on the signs for the duration of their term.
Can you fix title to bill moves onto Texas Senate? Thanks!
Well, since Bush won’t be president anymore after he leaves office, it’d seem appropriate.
Actually the state of Texas , will become the home of Two Former Bush Presidents, when GW leaves.
Wrong. He will always be President George W Bush even after he leaves office just like x42 is still President bill clinton.
Oh Please! Everytime I drive in to Ark. there is a sign with Home of Pres. Bill CLinton on it! PUKE!
If you drive on I-30 east from Dallas, when you get to Hope, Arkansas you will see a welcome sign that says “Birthplace of President Bill Clinton”.
Only the current President is called the President.
Others are former Presidents and should be referred to as such, and if need be, addressed as Mr.
I need to post a picture of the Al Gore bridge here in Tennessee.
I’m glad they left the name. It’s very fitting. LOL
Hmm, in Virginia I don’t remember seeing signs that say Home of Presidents Washington, Jefferson, Madison....
And it is inaccurate, since Bill Clinton is a former President, not a current one.
But I’m guessing it’s a combination of laziness and expense that keeps the sign the same.
Our signs don't say "Home of President George H.W. Bush" or "...Lyndon Baines Johnson."
Yep, the last time I drove by that sign in Hope, AR there was a bullet hole in it.
Okay. A guy walks into a bar in Arkansas and feels all eyes turn toward him. There arent any women, just a lot of goofy-looking dudes.
Bartender: Whatll ya have?
Guest: A beer, please.
Bartender: You aint from around here, are ya?
Guest: No Im from Pennsylvania.
Bartender: What do you do up there?
Guest: Im a taxidermist.
All the ears in the bar are now dialed into this conversation
Bartender: Taxi-dermast? Whats that?
The guest points to the trophy deer on the wall, You know, I mount animals.
Bartender: All yall can relax, boys, hes one of us!
I wonder if there is a sign in New Haven, CT that says “Birthplace of President George W. Bush”
No, former presidents are still called “President”.
Protocol is that bill clinton is STILL addressed as President clinton or Mr. President - not Former President clinton.
