Does anyone read the articles? He didn’t get a threat. According to AP, it’s because he’s black, and the govt thinks the US is a racist country. “According to a senior law enforcement official, the security detail was prompted by general concerns about the safety of a prominent black candidate. Although there was no direct threat to Obama, several factors raised concerns, including some racist chatter on white supremacist Web sites.”

It’s against the law of natural selection. I think it should be a part of the political process that you should be able to survive, and thrive, without artificial life support. Just my 2 cents worth.
I seriously doubt there is any real threat; the SS probably read some white supremacist blog and reacted. They will want to put extra agents on John Richards’ haircut, as it could be kidnapped and ransomed ;) Ditto for the Pantsuit. OK, so the President signs the Executive Order, but I wonder who actually suggested to do this? the SS? or who advised the SS? Obama himself?
It is available, and they will get it only when they ask. This is due to RFK. Personally, I have no problem with it because it occurs on both sides of the aisle. It is a sad state of the world we live in.
They said this morning that Obama requested it based on recent threats.

It is my understanding that the USSS was created to deal mostly with counterfeiting issues. Ironically it was Abraham Lincoln who signed this provision into law- his last act as President- he was killed that very night. It took over 35 years for the USSS to be given the responsibility of protecting the president, and if my count is correct, two more presidents were assinated during that time. I was always told that one of the reasons the USSS was given the responsibility was as sort of a tribute to Lincoln.
