God save the queen, and long live the Anglosphere.
We love our British cousins.

Virginians from Governor Tim Kaine down brushed up on royal protocol Why isn't it that the Queen brushes up on American protocol when she comes over here?

Reminds me of first limmerick I memorized:
There was a man from mooter,
who took a ride on his scooter,
he bumped into the Queen and said,
“Sorry, old bean, forgot to blow my tooter.”
To: krb
She does, but its the sycophantic Dems and other leftwingers who brush up on Royal protocol.
The Brits bow or curtsy to their Queen, or to their “betters” in the British system. The liberals will be doing the same, which is very wrong.
The British have a tradition of bowing only to British peers, nobles, and royalty. Americans have a tradition of bowing to *nobody*.

So according to real protocol, if I am Governor Kaine and I reach out and shake her hand for 7 seconds or whatever it is, instead of bowing to her, that’s technically OK by her?

According to American protocol, yes.
The only exception I can think of is with regards to the Japanese, who do not shake hands - and in which case, the American politician or citizen assigned to greet the ambassador or other figure should bow in the degree of equals, or in the degree of the superior.

Also, from what I understand, Elizabeth isn’t exactly a stuck-up Royal; when she was younger, she was a pretty good truck mechanic.

Dirty little secret: She’s actually here for the night race in Richmond Saturday - she’s quite the Stewart fan.

Wrong race, she’s here for the Kentucky Derby...
But she might take in the NASCAR race on Sunday.
A side note, she was also in Jamestown for the 350th anniversary 50 years, 10 Presidents, and 9 UK Prime Ministers ago...

All American Citizens are co-sovereigns if we believe the Constituition. Thus, we are all on equal terms with any royalty in the world and we should never pay obeisance to them. Technically all American citizens being received officially by a foreign government should be accorded a 21 gun salute since we are reigning sovereigns!

Oh for crying out loud. She’s the Queen of England and our guest. Why not show her some manners?

Yes, true. I have always admired the fact that she served her country. She did not have to do that. I remember seeing her at some ceremony for a D-Day anniversary with some fellow British WWII veterans. It was a remarkable scene. I salute her.

I agree. I was privileged to be part of the catering group who served her when she was hear to celebrate our bicentennial anniversary in 1976. She’s really a tiny lady.
