NEW YORK, May 2 (Reuters Life!) - Evacuees of Hurricane Katrina which devastated New Orleans in 2005 felt a deep level of distrust towards public health authorities, according to a new study.

Researchers at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) said the level of distrust influenced how people reacted to warnings to evacuate and why some residents decided to stay.

"The statements of distrust were all spontaneous statements," said Dr. Kristina Cordasco, the lead author of the study published in the Journal of Health Care for the Poor and Underserved.

Likely because of multiple ‘wants and warrants’.

It’s a catch 22 for authorities when dealing with this culture.

“You need to leave your house now, a flood is on the way”

Yeah, right, you just want to go through my house without me being there. Well guess what, I’m not that stupid.

Hey! What the heck, there’s a flood! Why didn’t they tell me to leave!?!

Considering what Hurricane Kat revealed for the world to see there was no reason to have trust. Interesting now isn’t it that MSM blow-hards were alllll about pointing their accusing fingers to President Bush for this whole mess.

Mother Nature or one of the many gods of liberalism, herself opened up the cesspool of liberalism for the world to see and liberals did what they always do point their finger of accusation to anybody and everybody but themselves.

From memories of this at the public shelters, I think that they should have distrusted themselves.

Whats sad about this is the evacuation of New Orleans was amazingly successful. As was the rescue of those that ignored the mayor, the governor, and the President’s statement to the effect of “run for your lives’ before Katrina hit.

80% of the city got out. 30,000 rescued afterwards.

No ‘expert’ prior to Katrina predicted this level of ‘success’ in such an event involving a major US city.

Not one.

Toi be fair, the President made a bad decision by not returning to Washington, choosing to do a fund raiser in California and returning to Crawford.

I know, I know, he can ‘do anything’ from ‘anywhere’.

But the act of leadership required he returned to his office. Had he done so, the leftwingers wouldn’t have had a golden opportunity to slam him for months afterwards.

It was a political misjudgement.

This report is pure bovine scat. Many of the people that ignored evacuation orders in New Orleans were government dependent, yet want you to believe that their distrust of the government made them stay in place.

The claims of richer neighborhoods being rescued first comes from the same folks who claimed that vast numbers of murders were taking place at the dome and the convention center and that there were sharks swimming down the streets. Consider the source.

Wonder why Reuters isn't highlighting the fact that these refugees from New Orleans are still in need of food and shelter from us taxpayers, and are fighting to have these benefits extended until at least 2009. Hmmmm....

The U.S. government was accused of ignoring the predominantly poor and black people that lived in the low-lying areas of New Orleans that were flooded after the levees burst when the storm touched land.

When does it end? This is the same old media template, the same old propaganda. After what the "wonderful" people of NO and their elected representatives showed me post Katrina, I could care less any more about their alleged victimhood. After 21 months of public wailing, whining and digging into the Federal treasury, it is time for these Katrina leaches to suck it up and move on.

How exactly would his return to Washington done one thing to help anyone in need in that bowl of soup?

I am not willing to give fake passes for lying destructive minds, because given the circumstances there was nothing President Bush could do as the governor had willingly tied his helpful hands.

Fortunately, they learned to trust The Man just in time for free housing, food, money, and shopping sprees in Houston. And lucky them, FEMA has just extended their freebies again. ...lucky...them...

Oh please. If President Bush walked across Lake Ponchatrain, all his critics would have said was, "You see, he can't swim."

“How exactly would his return to Washington done one thing to help anyone in need in that bowl of soup?”

Reread my post. As I noted the President can do his job from anywhere, at any time.

However, the MSM didn’t portray it as such, and ‘perception is reality’. His decision to remain ‘on vacation’ as the MSM noted every thirty seconds for an entire week, cost him politically, big time.

You and I both know it would not have made a real difference to those in NOLA, it wouldn’t have gotten a single convoy in quicker, or restored anything close to ‘normal’.

But half of leadership in crisis is being ‘on the bridge’. In that, the President made a mistake. One the MSM and the Democrats used to very good political advantage.

Thats my point.

Duh!

My thoughts as well. My next thought was: It took a study to learn this? I wonder how many federal dollars it cost the American taxpayer.

No doubt some would, Bush Derangement Syndrome being what it clearly is.

But by remaining ‘on vacation’ it gave his detractors a free pass to smear him over it, and it continues to this day. It was a political mistake, it was a bad decision.

When a President is told in the future “Sir, a Class Five (or four) Hurricane is about to hit a Major US City’ I guarantee you if that President is ‘on vacation’ he’ll abruptly end it and return to Washington DC.

I suspect you realize this is true.

Do you remember Hurricane Andrew that hit south Florida during the first President administration? Well Lawton Childes refused to ask or allow Presidential intervention just so he could raise the misery index and then point his accusing finger that President Bush did not care. It is a well practiced routine for liberals to create chaos and then lie and make outrageous accusations to further their own political careers. Pox on them and their twisted methods. I personally am not going anywhere near their methods and means to blame the present President Bush to give their twisted accusations credibility.
