People have eaten millions of chickens that were given feed tainted with recalled pet food, federal officials said Tuesday, though they said the threat to human health is minimal.

The announcement came after an investigation of chicken farms in Indiana found that 38 of the facilities had given contaminated feed to poultry raised for human consumption, and that 2.5 million to 3 million people ate them.

The officials added that they expect to discover that chickens on possibly hundreds of farms in other states were also given tainted feed.

ALOT of people are so fed up with the pet food recall, that is exactly what they are doing...cooking up chicken and rice.

Maybe if we weren’t feeding our crops to our gas tanks, we wouldn’t need feed from China.

I would think that the chicken itself would be an effective filter for the melamine it ate. If the chicken survived, humans would be unaffected.

I think the total lifespan for a fryer is 7 weeks.

Why are the illegal immigrants not going to China?

Do you get the feeling we are the ‘middle man’ in the chicken business?

Incompetent reporting again.
Where do they get these people?

McD rejects?

The obvious question is neither asked nor answered: why didn't the chickens die before going to market? Are they immune to substances that kill cats and dogs? Are the concentrations of the contaminants lower?

What?

What about the pork? 6 pigs farms, (or is that 60).

Can’t believe them anymore.

Exactly right cripplecreek. It’s a miracle we’re not all having health issues with the combination of China and illegals. China is so polluted it’s frightening that we are allowing any food at all from that cesspool, and then we’ve got illegals with who knows what handling it for our consumption.

“Yes, but don’t forget, we paid a nickel less for the chicken since the feed came from China. And that’s all that really matters. /sarcasm”
Well said. Our greatest cultural flaw is that everything is for sale and if its discounted then it even better.

That’s one good thing about eating meat. Toxins have already been filtered by kidneys and livers. Most of the plants we eat have some level of toxins.
