The White House said Bush would veto the bill on his return to the White House and then go before television cameras at 6:10 p.m. EDT, just before the evening news shows, to make a statement, coincidentally on the fourth anniversary of his so-called Mission Accomplished speech.

The President should use the occasion to REREAD that very speech. Preface it by saying :"My fellow Americans...YOU have been manipulated. You all remember what I said about the mission being accomplished 4 years ago, right? WRONG. Here, I will REREAD that very speech word for word. When I am through, I want you to ask yourself one question: "Where did I get the idea that he said what you presently think I said?".
Why can’t Bush just use his line-item veto?
The Democrats’ are more than “completely unacceptable”. They are causing more of our troops to be killed or wounded by giving aid and comfort to the enemy. This is treason, not a misdemeanor.
I wish Bush would say mission WAS accomplished!! We took out hussein!!! The WOT, however, will go on for years to come. Preferrably in Iraq as the cockroaches continue to move in to that country and not ours.
Too bad the msm and the liberals don’t GET that!!
All President Bush has to say when he vetoes this garbage is,”if American’s choose defeat in Iraq then they will elect a Democratic next President and that President won’t even need a bill to retreat”.
Good.
Hopefully he makes a short, decisive, speech.
He’s been saying he’s going to veto it for weeks now. Why not stop talking about it and just go ahead and do it?
Yet another 'Mission acomplished'?
Because he doesn't have one.
I’m with you.
I wish he’d bring Joe Lieberman up and have him read the speech he gave on the floor of the senate outlining why he was voting against the bill. That speech gave a tremendous overview of exactly what garbage this bill was. Throw THAT in the dem’s face!
Ruled unconstitutional in 1998. http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/1998/06/25/scotus.lineitem/
This will be a prelude to a compromise. Bush will say the bill is unacceptable for a number of reasons, including the deadline for withdrawal and the pork. He will conclude that he is willing to meet with the Dems immediately to address their concerns and get a bill that everyone can agree to. He will stress that the need for funding for the troops is urgent and Congress must act quickly in a bipartisan manner. I doubt the President will be too confrontational with the Dems recognizing that he will have to strike a deal with them.
Can't veto a bill he doesn't have. He didn't have the bill "for weeks".
Is this the Live thread?
Because the bill was timed to arrive on his desk today. Impossible to veto something you don’t have...
Five words: PRESIDENT BUSH, VETO THAT SUCKER!!!
Live thread...?....anyone..?? Thanks.
I’ll put one up..
