Sen. Claire McCaskill, who had been invited to speak at her daughter's Catholic high school commencement, was told last week that she was no longer invited because of church policy rejecting her positions on abortion and embryonic stem cell research.
McCaskill had been chosen to speak at the graduation this month at St. Joseph's Academy in Frontenac.
Sue Brown, a spokeswoman for the Catholic Education Office of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, said the education office had recommended to the president of St. Joseph's Academy that McCaskill not be permitted to speak because McCaskill's positions are contradictory to church teaching.

HA!!
good on the principal who made that decision!!
Wow.
I detect the presence of and actual SPINE here.
Let’s hope it spreads.
Sweet! I emailed this to Rush.
We need more, much more, of this.
The Catholic Church needs to stand up, kick some ass and start taking names.
Good for them.
Did you copy the Catholic bishop of Washington?
Good! Show the enabler the door.
Jim Talent must be smiling.
Bishop Burke! God bless you!!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent!! Sorry Crazy Claire - you are not welcome!
Gee, she doesn’t have her kid in public school...
There must be a word for people who go against their religion because it hurts their chances for re-election.
People who do not follow their moral and ethical obligations for a few votes.
People who are against the murder of the born but kill the unborn in droves.
People who do not believe in executing murderers, but are perfectly willing to slaughter the innocent as they leave their mothers birth canal.
What is the word I seek——————Democrats.
Carolyn
I smell Bishop Burke behind this decision . He was the One who said if John Kerry Came to me for Communion I would bless him but refuse communion!
Burke and Chaput are the Top two Bishops who should be Cardinals soon!
Hope they don’t back down!! WHO invited her in the first place?
Great news indeed, and that’s an excellent question.
One of the sad facts is that a lot of “Catholic” institution boards and managers have gotten away for a long time with being Democrats first and Catholics second. Any technically “Catholic” Dem politician gets an invitation no matter what his position on Catholic teaching. Leaving apart the mystifying question of exactly why they love the Dems so much, this is a long-term love affair and it’s going to take bishops with a lot of courage to break this pattern.
I’ll bet it was some lesbian nun that invited her.
Looks like an all-girl school, too. Oh, my! What about diversity??
