OK ALL HERE IS WHAT IS HAPPENING

in the oct-nov-dec period of 96 the raw materials of pet food/animal feed jumped up in price. (ethanol /fuel prices)

they reformulated and by law have 3 or more months to declare the reformulation on bags.

The Chinese companies saw a way to sell their inferior products to the US by adding crap that boosted the Nitrogen profile, (the cheap way to measure protien)

They added what they had cheapest... a plastics raw material/fertilizer.

All our food is suspect. Anything that ate feed or any product that had protein added since then till six months from now. (even our food) The stuff is still in the pipeline.

FYI:
http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/2007-04-30-chinese-imports-usat_N.htm

Don’t think I have ever tried to post a link, hope it works.

...The Food and Drug Administration is enforcing a new import alert that greatly expands its curtailment of some food ingredients imported from China, authorizing border inspectors to detain ingredients used in everything from noodles to breakfast bars....

Until this thing gets settled, we'll be eating a lot of lentils, and other vegetarian dishes...and we're definitely not vegetarians!

But the dog food is still a problem, even though we are now making our own how do we know the meat we're using isn't contaminated?

IMHO, some of the recalls (Natural Balance for instance) stated that their manufacturer was adding rice protein to the formula, without their knowledge (it isn't on their ingredient formula for several of their canned foods recalled.) That must be a criminal act on some level, yet I've heard nothing about prosecuting folks for misrepresenting the products their making.

Assume you meant ‘06. Of course, maybe we should be suspect of anything we buy that should have went up in price over this period of higher fuel prices and hasn’t.
