I think this may be a subliminal advertising attempt to get Red Staters to think these monkeys are on their side.

Does it not look as if Harry Reid is pledging allegience to the Confederate Flag in that picture? What position did the DemoncRat party take following the Civil War? Were they not anti-Slave rights?

What position did the DemoncRat party take following the Civil War? Were they not anti-Slave rights? Absolutely. They started the Klan as well as participated in terrorist activities against freed slaves and Republican politicians.

The Copperheads were a faction of Democrats in the North (see also Union (American Civil War)) who opposed the American Civil War, wanting an immediate peace settlement with the Confederates. The name Copperheads was given to them by their opponents the Republicans, because of the copper liberty-head coins they wore as badges. They were also called "Peace Democrats" and "Butternuts". The most famous Copperhead was Ohio's Clement L. Vallandigham, who was a vehement opponent of President Abraham Lincoln's policies.

I’ll have to wait until I can get onto a different server. Our internet security software won’t permit access to that site. I’ll let you know what I think.

The Democrats are the party of the KKK, the Confederacy, copperheads, the trail of tears, Japanese internment, racial segregation, Jim Crow, Dixiecrats, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and so much more...

That is priceless.
Place Mitch McConnell behind that same podium and he’d already be the EX-Majority Leader.
That’s because, historically, the Confederacy was made up almost entirely of Republicans, while it was the Democrats who won the Civil War and freed the slaves. I believe it was President William Jefferson Clinton in fact who signed the Emancipation Proclamation.
Of course, had the South’s President been a better military man instead of Republican Strom Thurmond, who knows?

That is very funny.
It wouldn’t surprise me at all if the similarity was intentional, as a way of gaining votes in the south...seriously.
Remember Howard Dean’s comments about wanting to get the votes of southern guys with gunracks?
