Perhaps some here may find my sympathy with this 28 year old gentleman peculiar, but I see him as a man who has lead a good life, a life of duty and honor, and as a man who still struggles with the temptation, the sin, of self absorption and sniveling self pity through prayer and by Grace. One thinks of Our Lord’s temptation, pain, and, yes, terror, at Gethsemane. How easy it would have been for a lesser man to seek his own will rather than The Lord’s.

I believe King Vanity is most fortunate. His courage encourages me. Remember that courage is a grace freely given to all who ask. I turn away so readily from His gifts and lose all that is hoped for.

I read your post and inadvertently, spontaneously started to cry.

After years of suffering, this man doesn’t need our prayers—we should beg him to pray for us.

May he understand that few of us want to follow his path to God, but if circumstances require, his is a shining exemplar.

May King Vanity and all his caregivers find peace, joy, and respite in the Light.
