Disarm America? Here's how [liberal wants Nazi type search of every household in the U.S.]
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ^ | April 29, 2007 | Dan Simpson

When people talk about doing something about guns in America, one of the points that comes to the fore is, "How could America disarm even if it wanted to? There are so many guns out there." Today I want to address the question of "how" -- if we decided to. Since I have little or no power to influence the "if" part of the issue, I will stick with "how."

Now, how would one disarm the American population? First of all, federal or state laws would need to make it a crime punishable by a $1,000 fine and one year in prison per weapon to possess a firearm. The population would then be given three months to turn in their guns, without penalty.

The disarmament process would begin after the initial three-month amnesty. Special squads of police would be formed and trained to carry out the work. Then, on a random basis to permit no advance warning, city blocks and stretches of suburban and rural areas would be cordoned off and searches carried out in every business, dwelling and empty building. Thoroughness would be at the level of the sort of search that is carried out in Crime Scene Investigations. All firearms would be seized. The owners of weapons found in the searches would be prosecuted: $1,000 and one year in prison for each firearm.

Clearly, since such sweeps could not take place all across a city, county, state or the country at the same time, guns would move. But fairly quickly there would begin to be gun-swept, gun-free areas where there should be no firearms. If there were, those carrying them would be subject to quick confiscation and prosecution. On the streets it would be a question of stopping and searching anyone, even Grandma with her walker.

>By the time the Government reaches this point of gun confiscation they will be able to do any thing they wish.<

That’s when I would not want to be President. Only a few nutcases nowadays want him dead. I wonder how he would feel if millions did. It would be scary to be a politician or a LEO in times like that.

>I don’t think that very many LEOs would be very happy about trying to carry this out. How many firefights would it take before they become downright hostile to the idea. My guess is not many.<

How many cops would be killed by their neighbors when they came home from a day of confiscating weapons?

Make friends with your postman. Why? Because s/he knows who all the LEO’s are in your neighborhood. You can tell a lot about someone by the type of mail they receive.

G-d forbid, this guy's plan could go into effect after a staged scenario ala "Enemies Foreign and Domestic.

Yep. Travis saw it coming. You seen his latest?

This author would be the very first casualty in such a war.

Believe that.

Nope. That was almost seven years ago.

A good number of citizens of this day and age wouldn't hesitate to turn in their neighbors, relatives, and friends. They wouldn't hesitate to support draconian measures such as deploying the military inside the lower 48 states against firearm holdouts. It wouldn't take much to pacify the average American second-amendment holdout.

You want draconian, I'll give you draconian: of the casualties of the 4-month-long Finnish Civil War of 1918, there was a total of nearly 40,000 from both sides killed, though only about 9,500 were combat casualties. More actually perished in prison camps than in the fighting, and nearly 10,000 were executed, mostly by firing squads.

The number killed approximated 1 per cent of the pre-war population of Finland; though the U.S. Civil War/War Between the States resulted in a toll of about 2% that was spread over the years 1861 to 1865; the Finnish butcher's bill came due in just a few very intense months.

And, of course, the current US population is about 300 million. I'm sure you can work out the numbers resulting from a 1%-2% national spat for yourself, but there's certainly no guarantee that Americans would tire of the sport as quickly as did the Finns.

And that good number of citizens of this day and age who wouldn't hesitate to turn in their neighbors, relatives, and friends can be the first to get the ball rolling. Call.

I agree it will be all about informants and I think it would be wise to keep that in mind about who knows what just in case.

It'll be much more about *secured zones,* in some of which the inhabitants will all be armed and prepared to come to the common defence of anyone who requires it; and in others where the inhabitants will be disarmed and penned up lest they go anywhere without official approval. Later measures will move toward and may include permanent blinding of the drones to prevent their resistance.

Think of the old Italian city-states of the Italian Rinascimento, the Renaissance. Which among other things, gave us the assorted thoughts of clear thinkers like Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci...and Niccolò Machiavelli.

In any event, there would be a shootout at my house and I could hold them off until they burned the house down.

While they're killing you and burning your house down, I'll be working on theirs and their families.

Whatever it takes to help the cause.

This whole thing is frightening. These liberal idiots don’t understand that the First Amendment is guaranteed by the second.

Chuck Schumer stated some time ago that he did not believe that politicians should have to live in fear of guns. I suggest that this is exactly what the framers of the U.S. Constitution had in mind. That politicians should live in fear of an armed populace.

The liberals say that this country can’t possibly find and deport the illegal aliens, yet this idiot believes that the government should sweep every home in America and confiscate guns???? You just can’t make this stuff up.

Thank you for your continued willingness to speak your mind, going back for years.

Someone please ask our Jewish friends if this sounds like a good idea.

Gee, special squads - maybe we could call them the SS...

I don’t even know if in the world people like Dan plan for us, constitutional presidents exist. It appears that they’re willing to tear up the constitution and throw out the structures it established. Who knows who would be in the Oval office at such a time.

Dippy Dan fails to consider the possibility that some people might object to having their personal property confiscated. In fact, some people might object rather loudly; with sudden and repeated banging sounds. Such noisy objections would, no doubt, leave his imagined gun squads rather thin on the ground within a week or two.

The poor ickle gun-grabbing socialist is just venting in print. Even after the campus shooting, the general view in America is more pro 2nd Amendment than before the shooting.

Would some kind FReeper in his town please call the WAAAAmbulance for him.

I wouldn't take that for granted. If you read or hear this in conservative media, it may be an echo chamber. If the Democrats can refuse to fund our troops, they can launch attacks on the second amendment, too.
