When people talk about doing something about guns in America, one of the points that comes to the fore is, "How could America disarm even if it wanted to? There are so many guns out there." Today I want to address the question of "how" -- if we decided to. Since I have little or no power to influence the "if" part of the issue, I will stick with "how."
Now, how would one disarm the American population? First of all, federal or state laws would need to make it a crime punishable by a $1,000 fine and one year in prison per weapon to possess a firearm. The population would then be given three months to turn in their guns, without penalty.
The disarmament process would begin after the initial three-month amnesty. Special squads of police would be formed and trained to carry out the work. Then, on a random basis to permit no advance warning, city blocks and stretches of suburban and rural areas would be cordoned off and searches carried out in every business, dwelling and empty building. Thoroughness would be at the level of the sort of search that is carried out in Crime Scene Investigations. All firearms would be seized. The owners of weapons found in the searches would be prosecuted: $1,000 and one year in prison for each firearm.
Clearly, since such sweeps could not take place all across a city, county, state or the country at the same time, guns would move. But fairly quickly there would begin to be gun-swept, gun-free areas where there should be no firearms. If there were, those carrying them would be subject to quick confiscation and prosecution. On the streets it would be a question of stopping and searching anyone, even Grandma with her walker.

Exactly right. They HATE individualism. Everything should be collective. Collective free speech (what the MSM and the government tells you) Collective self defense (the police will protect you) etc.
So they'll use the Marines, who are not covered by the Federal posse comitatus act, and have a long histyory of such activity, from the recovery of the US Arsenal at Harper's Ferry from Abolitionist terrorist John Brown to guarding the US Mails from 1922-'27.
An attempt to do so would result in State sponsored civil war declarations, and a military coup against the Federal government.
That'd just result in another string of sudden and tragic air crashes involving Flag and General officers, with an additional few sudden *suicides*. Or hadn't you noticed?

The fact that there’s a war on might also be affecting availability, ya think?
The US needs the output of practically all .223, .308 and .50BMG manufacturers to supply troops in Iraq. That considered, prices haven’t gone up all that much, as when a HUGE customer says “I’ll buy everything you have, and then some”, that doesn’t leave much left for others to squabble over.
This also translates to reduced availability of raw materials, affecting other calibers.
All that said, MaDeuce does have a point regarding the import restrictions. We could have more ammo cheaper if not for stupid import regulations.
BLOAT.
Stockpile.
Take an interest in low-volume and odd-caliber shooting sports.

sigh. Time for another visit to the gun show.
Weirdly enough, a few of the lefty types I know are themselves cop-hating, gun-owning anarchists who’d probably fight just as hard against this sort of police-state insanity as any Freeper.
Go to any gun show and you will see em. Anarchists, pony tails, mixing with weird fringe conservatives, mixing with military and law enforcement types, mixing with city gang banger types..... It is great to be a FREE AMERICAN. We disagree like crazy on almost everything else, but we all agree on th fact that guns help keep us free.
Please tell me this is the author’s version of a “Modest Proposal”
It's too dangerous ;)
All the gun confiscations have done is to embolden the yobs and their use of knives.
Not to defend this guy, but he is suggesting that his proscription is HOW it would have to be done...getting the law changed is another question entirely and a different subject for discussion.
In any event, there would be a shootout at my house and I could hold them off until they burned the house down.
Today it might happen.
But give it a couple generations. More and more immigrants that don’t value gun ownership because they’ve never had it. More and more indoctrination in public schools.
Pretty soon there will be so few gun owners that it won’t matter if gun owners resist or not. All the gun grabbers have to do is wait us out. To truly preserve the second ammendment for all time, we have to provoke a confrontation now while we can still win. And that ain’t likely to happen.
I’m sorry, but that’s how I see it. In the end we lose. The only thing that’s debatable is how long we can hold out.
This guy wants jack booted gestapo tactics?
And then how long until they start loading up the boxcars?
I’d really like to punch this SOB in the nose.
It seems to me that everyone here is forgetting the obvious.
Take all your firearms out of your house and bury them somewhere in the woods in the middle of nowhere. Or better yet, sink them in a pond somewhere with a chain tied to a log.
Then once they’ve completed the search of your neighborhood, go get them and hide them in your basement.
He11, they’re giving you a 3 month grace period to go scouting for a good hiding place. Now once the stupid organized search parties are over with, your gun collection will be worth a fortune. But don’t bring them out yet. Wait till the search is completely over with in the whole country. It will take years. Eventually, the search squads will be downsized for lack of places to search.
Now, if by chance an armed uprising does get organized, you will have the option of joining it, sitting it out, or donating your weapons to it.
This will be my plan.
“The fact that theres a war on might also be affecting availability, ya think?”
I understand you line of thought, but there was a war going on during the 60’s and 70’s using 10 times the ammo we are using today and there were no shortages or insane price increases.
“There’s a war going on” is the famous line I hear at all the gun shows when the Ammo guy tries to justify his almost $100 price for a 200 rnd battle pack of surplus .308. I just buy once-shot brass by the barrel now as well as the other components. I’d rather burn my Friday and Saturday nights depriming/resizing, and other preping steps then fork over insane prices to these vultures.
Oh yeah ... when at the gun shows, stock up on replacement parts (especially whats left of the genuine GI parts) for your M1 and M14.
A good number of citizens of this day and age wouldn't hesitate to turn in their neighbors, relatives, and friends. They wouldn't hesitate to support draconian measures such as deploying the military inside the lower 48 states against firearm holdouts. It wouldn't take much to pacify the average American second-amendment holdout.
In other words, there would be dozens of Alamos across the country, and then silence.
It just goes to show that our votes count, and our written and spoken communications on this matter are more critical than ever.
We need to develop better communications in this war of words, because there's no certainty liberty would win if it goes beyond that. Dan would be firmly against the Constitutional holdouts.
It's stunning how near we've come to losing everything our GIs in WWII fought so hard to defend, in just a couple of generations.
MARTIN, HARRY LINN, on Iwo Jima on 26 March 1945... When 4 of the infiltrating enemy took possession of an abandoned machinegun pit and subjected his sector to a barrage of hand grenades, 1st Lt. Martin, alone and armed only with a pistol, boldly charged the hostile position and killed all of its occupants. Realizing that his few remaining comrades could not repulse another organized attack, he called to his men to follow and then charged into the midst of the strong enemy force, firing his weapon and scattering them until he fell, mortally wounded by a grenade.
Thanks!
He’s just saying what every nazi-liberal dreams of doing.
Believe that.
