“german breakfast, lunch or dinner, right? :)”

I recently visited Belgium for the first time of my life.

One of the best culinary traditions of this country is the tradition of combining French quality with German sized portions.

Mmmmmm....sauerbraten. Currywurst. Spatzen. Kartofflekloesse. Wilted lettuce. Rotkohl. When I was an itty-bitty little Viking, my great-grandmother (Grandma Krause, right off the boat from Ulm) used to come over and cook for us quite a bit, and taught my mother (and, by extension, me) how to fix a feast from the Old Country. Given that the area I grew up in was also heavily populated by descendants of German immigrants (as well as a sizeable contingent of Amish), German - or German based - fare can be found quite a bit. It's still tradition in many homes - and some restaurants - to serve sauerkraut with your Thanksgiving bird. And I make a mean kettle of Bavarian kraut.
