Like a parent gently scolding her warring children, a Family Court judge yesterday told former Gov. James E. McGreevey and his wife, Dina Matos McGreevey, to "use common sense" and to act in the best interest of their daughter as they work through an increasingly rancorous divorce.
The McGreeveys, appearing in public together for the first time since the former governor famously declared himself a "gay American" three years ago, sat a few feet apart but spoke barely a word to each other in the packed Elizabeth courtroom.
Their only interaction came at the session's start, when McGreevey approached his wife and offered to shake hands. She accepted, a strained smile on her face, and quickly turned away.
Family Court Presiding Judge Karen Cassidy sought to cut through the frost after announcing the McGreeveys had agreed -- following hours of closed-door negotiations among their lawyers and the judge -- to temporarily continue their joint custody arrangement for their only child, 5-year-old Jacqueline.
Speaking in a chiding but even tone, Cassidy told the couple to think back to the time "when your daughter was conceived and born and you were living together."
Matos McGreevey wrote that her husband exposed their daughter to erotic artwork -- a "life-size photograph of a nude male model" -- at the Plainfield home McGreevey shares with his partner, Australian-born financier Mark O'Donnell. She also has insisted Jacqueline not share a bed with McGreevey and O'Donnell.
McGreevey, for his part, wrote in court papers that Matos McGreevey had failed to get Jacqueline to preschool on time on 59 occasions since September and that the child had missed an additional 22 days of school in that time. In another filing, he accused his wife of inventing "malicious, misleading" stories about him and called her a "bitter, vengeful woman."

Those same enlightened liberal voters who gave us Jim McGreevey.
This reminds me of that old line "I don't want to be part of any organization that would be stupid enough to have me as a member."
As a contrarian I'm inclined to vote for whoever the LIBERAL jackasses in this state DON'T VOTE FOR.
In the meantime, you have to feel sorry for their daughter.
The title should read Frosty.
“The McGreevey’s Frost Day in Family Court”
Was it a cold day?
Parent coordinator? WTF?
He also reiterated his desire to enter into a civil union with his partner, O'Donnell, because it will give him "a chance to provide my daughter with a nurturing, loving environment."
McSleazy is only interested in himself and a photo op. I feel for the little girl.
Yeah, either I'm illitemerate or this Global Warming nonsense is a hoax and it was freezing in April...or both.
Welcome to my life in the DPRNJ.
"If you two don't get your acts together," she warned, "I'll order you both to spend a week traveling around the state in Jon Corzine's SUV."
/sarcasm off/
His daughter is going to preschool, so what if she misses days or gets there late, it’s preschool for goodness sake, not college.
If I were the wife i’d take issue with this man exposing his child to his gay lifestyle in such a way and I definitely would not want her sleeping in bed with these two guys.
If I were the judge, I'd take the kid away from both of them and have her put up for adoption.
Since it’s not a hetero dad, there’s little chance McSlimey will lose custody here in the people court of political correctness.
Poor woman would have a slam dunk case for custody showing the reckless lifestyle of a philandering husband.
But since her husband was chasing random guys in highway bathrooms, well that’s just too noble for the NJ judge to do anything but call it a draw.
Gross.
Someday the Molly Pitcher rest stop on the NJT will be renamed the “Governer James McGreevey Memorial Rest Stop.”
And that is because...
59 times late is two months and 22 days absent is close to a month! How much gay sex can a man have that early in the morning not to see his kid off to school? Love to see the attendance rates of your kids!
Oh the poor gay husband! So misunderstood!!!! Oh the humanity!!!!
She’s such a bitter harpy because she doesn’t want her daughter in bed with two gay men!!! Imagine that!!! She doesn’t want her FIVE y.o. daughter exposed to a life sized photo of male genitalia!!! So perverted of this mother to keep her daughter from ART and CULTURE!!!!!
The liberal blogs in NJ made a big deal out of this NY Post cover. That's Communism for you. "Some animals are more equal than others" as George Orwell wrote in Animal Farm.
Socialists and Communists pass laws restricting the stupid sheeple from all sorts of things. Seat belts etc. No smoking in bars in order to coerce the sheeple to quit smoking. Screw the proletariet construction worker who wants a beer and a Marlboro at his local watering hole.
But cigar bars where the party Elite get together to smoke expensive cigars and drink scotch...they're exempt.
Seat belts are only for the proletariet...the Communist Party leaders are exempt. And sheeple sit by and let this stuff be dictated to them. As Thomas Jefferson said "Democracy guarantees that the people will get the government they deserve." It's not our fault that those people are stupid.
What a sorry spectacle, even by divorce court standards. Maybe McGreevy can tell his students about this in the ethics class he teaches.
Couples getting a divorce in TX who have minor children are REQUIRED to take parenting classes.
Liberals were also up in arms when "Republican" Governor Christie Todd Whitman named a rest area for Howard Stern and kept her campaign promise to him for his support. Say what you will about Howard, but at least he never solicited gay sex at the rest stop. Fart jokes and bathroom humor aside (pun intended) He's divorced now, but he raised three girls in a two parent family.
The whole McGreedy affair reminds me of that scene in "There's Something About Mary" where Ben Stiller ends up on Cops after pulling over at a rest stop. It would have been disgusting if it weren't so damn funny.
Did you see the FR thread about that?
Move before it’s too late.
