Fresno High School students selected senior Dan Abril as prom king and senior Corissa Compos as queen. So what, you say?
Among the contenders vying to be crowned prom king was tranny Cinthia Covarrubias. While the senior was perfectly happy to be in the spotlight a few days ago when (s)he said (s)he wanted to "break a barrier for future transgender students," The Fresno Bee reports that on the Big Night Covarrubias sicced Fresno Unified School District Assistant Superintendent John Marinovich on TV camera crews to tell them to buzz off:
"She and her parents do not want to be taped, or interviewed, at all. She feels strongly enough about it that she came in through a back entrance. I hope you won't spoil the evening for her."
One parent, who feels that Covarrubias spoiled Prom Night for everyone else, tells The Bee that "the world is getting too politically correct":
"It puts [the students] in an awkward position. I don't have a problem with her sexual identity. Tolerance has grown, but why does she need to make things awkward for the other kids? There's a time and place to make a stand. To me, this isn't it."
For his part, Michael Martin, a junior, did not vote for Covarrubias, because a shemale prom king is "creepy."
Oh wow he posed as a woman for a few fun events.
Well I guess I’m a tranny then. Better tell my husband.
Well, until she gets “the operation” to give her a wee-wee, she is just a shemale (transgender) and not a tranny (transsexual). I had to Google all this to get it, it really is quite complicated.
My understanding is a shemale is a gril with a male part. A transvestite (tranny) is simply a crossdresser and transgendered means you are or will have an operation to change your sex. So using shemale in the title and tranny in the story is confusing. In context it sounds like she just likes to dress as a male.
No, you aren't a tranny, however you are now fully qualified to run for President of the United States, or at least "Prom King". ; )
I sure didn’t see these normal comments in my AP story on the subject. Only platitudes about “civil rights” and “groundbreaking”.
Checked Wikipedia. Tranny has multiple meanings (LOL)! It can be a transsexual or a transgendered person, someone “transistioning” to the opposite gender or someone who has completed the transformation via operations, hormones, etc. It is an all-purpose term.
In this girl’s case, it is likely that she is a a shemale only because she is still so young. Usually doctors will wait until 21 to begin hormone treatments (testosterone does more to make a woman look like a man than estrogen does to make a man look like a woman). Then if a complete transformation is wanted, the sexual organs are created and any additional cosmetic surgery needed to enhance the effects of the hormones.
OK, I now more about this than I ever thought I needed to.
Do an article search on "Prom King" - there are other FR posts about this.
S/he has "no plans for gender reassignment" (yet).
Prom date is a "close friend" (female) who will wear a black dress with red corsage.
I think a larger can o'worms was opened than this person wanted. First it's "look at me! look at me! I'm gonna be Prom King!", then it's sneak in thru the back entrance so I don't have to talk about losing?
If you see something that looks like a star
And it's shooting up out of the ground
And your head is spinning from a loud guitar
And you just can't escape from the sound
Don't worry too much, it'll happen to you
We were children once, playing with toys
And the thing that you're hearing is only the sound
Of the low spark of high-heeled boys
The percentage you're paying is too high-priced
While you're living beyond all your means
And the man in the suit has just bought a new car
From the profit he's made on your dreams
But today you just read that the man was shot dead
By a gun that didn't make any noise
But it wasn't the bullet that laid him to rest
Was the low spark of high-heeled boys
If you had just a minute to breath
And they granted you one final wish
Would you ask for something like another chance
Or something similar as this
Don't worry too much, it'll happen to you
As sure as your sorrows or joys
And the thing that disturbs you is only the sound
Of the low spark of high-heeled boys
High-heeled boys...
If I gave you everything that I owned
And asked for nothing in return
Would you do the same for me as I would for you
Or take me for a ride
And strip me of everything, including my pride
But spirit is something that no one destroys
And the sound that I'm hearing is only the sound
Of the low spark of high-heeled boys
Heeled boys
The whole 'trans' thing does get a little confusing. But I was using the word "Queen" (as in Prom Queen), as a play on the word (drag)"Queen".
And I have just violated the second rule of comedy: If you have to explain em.............don't.
is she hot?
No. That makes you a fun and frivolous person, one comfortable enough with their own sexuality to not be threatened by portraying a different image of yourself.
Now, getting dressed as a member of the opposite sex and going to bars to fool others into cheap and wanton sex, that would make you a transvestite.
I am a girl who like boys, so I wouldn’t have an opinion. From the photo I saw on Drudge, let’s put it this way: Rosie’s girlfriend might think she’s hot.
hahahahah so confusing...
ping
Sorry I spoiled your joke, but I guess I really do not get this whole transgender thing. I am the girliest girl you’ve ever seen, even when am wearing a tuxedo (which I have done on occasion). It’s hard to pretend you’re a boy when you’re a 38D!
Now here’s where I got lost with your joke: Is a Drag Queen a boy who dresses and tries to pass for a girl. Or can a Drag Queen also be a girl who dresses and tries to pass for a boy?
The Day of the Normalphobes..
Basically, yes. However, the term Drag Queen vs. transvestite, has a slight nuance that differentiates them. All drag queens are transvestites (TV's), but not all TV's are drag queens.
The term drag queen usually is reserved for an overly flamboyant gay and effeminate man who portrays a woman in an outrageously feminine style.
An example of a TV who is not a Drag queen would be a man who enjoys dressing as a woman but only in private.
I wonder if we also don't have a hermaphrodite running.
So all the nuances are based on how you present yourself in public.
