I am going to go ahead and assume that because CNN isn't screaming at the top of their lungs that this guy is either Conservative or Republican that he must be a liberal or demoncat, so therefore we won't hear much of him. Just wait till the first guy who is a Republican gets busted though....they will act like there were orgies in the West Wing or something.

The guy worked at the State department. How likely is it that he was conservative? The State dept is somewhere to the left of Fidel Castro.

Actually, the AP is referring to him as a “Bush official.” What a bunch of partisan scumbags.

“to have gals come over to the condo to give me a massage.” He told the network that there was no sex involved.”

So why resign?
(probably because his wife didn’t know and he has completely humiliated her, I’m guessing.)
A distraction the Administration doesn’t need. I wonder if Condi asked him to resign?

The State Department said that Tobias, 65, resigned for “personal reasons.”

ABC reported on its Web site that Tobias, 65, said Thursday that he had used Deborah Jeane Palfrey’s escort service “to have gals come over to the condo to give me a massage.” He told the network that there was no sex involved.

He told the network that there was no sex involved.

Well, now, we may have to check the Clinton dictionary on this one, LOL.

But seriously, prostitution that is conducted behind closed doors should be legal. It's that simple. How many women date men for their money? How many men date women for their hot bods? That's prostitution, too, but it's never prosecuted.

Prostitution is just honest dating. Instead of buying her dinner and some jewelry, you just give her the money up front. Unfortunately, our culture today rewards people for being dishonest, breaking hearts, having unwanted children, having abortions and going through messy divorces after marriages that were based on money, lust and/or lies. Nevada is the only sane state when it comes to dealing with prostitution and even it has too many restrictions.

Maybe the state department can go into the business of rating hookers rather than countries. I suspect this is the first of many - waiting for the dam to bust.

Just as an FYI,

On July 2, 2003, President Bush announced his intent to nominate Tobias to serve as the first United States Global AIDS Coordinator with the rank of Ambassador, reporting directly to the Secretary of State. He was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 3, 2003 and sworn in on October 6, 2003.

Ambassador Tobias was responsible for launching the highly successful President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, and for directing all U.S. Government international HIV/AIDS assistance across the various agencies and departments of the United States Government that deliver it.

On January 19, 2006, President Bush announced his intent to name Ambassador Tobias as the nation's first Director of United States Foreign Assistance, and to nominate him to serve concurrently as Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the principal government agency that administers economic and humanitarian assistance worldwide.

He was confirmed as USAID Administrator by the U.S. Senate on March 29, 2006 and sworn in on March 31, 2006. He continues to report to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and holds the rank of Deputy Secretary of State.

In addition to his direct responsibilities for USAID, in his new role at the State Department Ambassador Tobias will be charged with directing the transformation of the U.S. government's approach to foreign assistance.

As Director of Foreign Assistance, Ambassador Tobias will also be responsible for providing strategic direction and guidance to all other foreign assistance programs delivered through the various agencies and entities of the U.S. Government, including the Millennium Challenge Corporation and the Office of the U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator.

....On her Web site, Palfrey says she unconditionally gave "copies of certain years of the records ... to ABC News."

Palfrey started up her opearion in 1993. Interesting timing, eh?

Questions for ABC News: What did you do/agree to to get the info? And what are you spiking?

Inquiring minds want to know...

Unless I’ve missed it, the main concern hasn’t been mentioned. This guy most certainly has, or had, a security clearance and access to classified information. Secrets, national security, espionage and blackmail are what should be on the minds of Condi and the President.

Why assume? The facts are readily available. Tobias is a Bush appointee. He is not a lifelong government bureaucrat. And he is a Republican. He was head of Eli Lilly in Indianapolis and also held another State Dept. post before he headed AID.

As a longtime reader of FreeRepublic, I am discouraged by the ignorance displayed in some posts. Please do your home work before sharing your thoughts.
