September 11th woke me up from my lifelong state of political and historical ignorance. Since then I have been trying to learn about and understand the world I live in.

They are "smilies" and are a way of adding expression to plain text. Cock your head to the left, like you're eating a taco, and you'll see the eyes, nose, mouth...
On certain forums you will get actual smily faces or other emoticons when you type in the right code. Try a google search with the keyword "smilies" for more info.

BTW; If you have questions, I have alot of answers. I even match them up with the right questions sometimes. And I will even throw in some big words that I may or may not know the meanings of, but it makes me sound smart. So who cares!!

I haven’t posted on it but if I had, I would have said that many on Free Republic have already embraced Socialism, at least to some degree. I’m having a hard time imagining the United States in its early years, with the small government and all, and each state being distinguished from the other.
I haven’t looked in on it for awhile. I had kept up reading the whole thing but got so far behind that I gave up on that. Now I just jump in and comment on somethings happening at the time. Sometimes serious, sometimes light hearted. Whatever the situation calls for.
I’d appreciate the pings. I am mostly a positive person, but can get worked up over certain issues. I don’t care for maligning the person I am posting to, tho, even if I vehemently(only a $3 word,today’s special) disagree with them.

I’ve always had a horrible memory, so I’ve never been a “big word” person.
You know how we all have a word on the tip of our tongue but just can’t quite remember what it is?
I don’t remember why I had this particular word in mind but I was around 16 y/o and for days couldn’t remember this particular word. I was sitting at the dinner table with my grandparents when it suddenly came to me.
You should have seen the look on their faces when I blurted out “circumcision” for no apparent reason. I’ll never forget that moment!
