Toddler dies after pit bull attack

Authorities say a toddler was mauled to death when the family pit bull got loose from inside a laundry room and attacked the young boy.
Brian Palmer died Tuesday morning from his injuries. He would have turned two-years-old in August.
The 2-year-old dog was euthanized, and its head was sent to Columbia for testing.
Authorities say the dog had killed a family cat and fought with another dog within the last month. There were --no-- adults in the house when the attack occurred and the oldest of four children at the home was 16-years-old.

Someday, people will wise up and get rid of these dogs.

Outlaw the breed.
Prior attacks = not worth the time rehabilitating a pit bull. Especailly with young children in the house. But I’m sure the father(if there even was one), with the small P, felt like a REAL man when he took the dog for a walk once every month or so.
I'm with you. I've never heard of a collie, irish setter, or sheltie maul a kid to death -- no matter how the dog was raised.
May Jesus help the older kid(s) that found this little boy. I canot even begin to imagine the horror they encounted. I remember the first time I saw a friend killed in action, the first time I ahd to write a letter home, but to find your baby brother mauled by a dog, to hear that babies screams, is somehting only the Lord can help one through.

Now you’ve done it. Look out for the personal attacks that are sure to follow. Outlawing all pit bulls seems to be a harsh overreaction to this problem, but what other solution is there?
They’re 1% of the Dog population and account for over 30% of Fatal Bites. Key word “Fatal”. Not all Canines are suitable to live among us. Pit Bulls should be reclassified. You can have a cat, but you can’t have a tiger. You can have a Boa Constrictor, but you can’t have a Cobra.
Why are the parents not being "euthanized"?

At one time I would have disagreed with you, but I’ve come to believe that this breed has just been ruined through indiscriminate breeding by mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging morons, resulting in excessively unpredictable animals. Other than a small number of reputable breeders and owners, notice how this type of dog always seems to be owned by real low-class morons? Most sensible people don’t want anything to do with them any more. And it’s too bad, because I do believe the great majority of these animals are basically just as harmless as their owners say. I’ve known quite a few pit bulls, and the biggest danger those ones posed was getting licked to death, or thrashed with their tails.
I agree with you. My BIL had one in a pen. It was half pit and half rottie.
That dog pulled a yorkie in from a hole he dug in the ground and killed it.
My BIL put the dog to sleep.

This study was conducted not to determine which breeds of dogs caused fatalities, but rather to examine the circumstances and events that precipitated an attack. Knowing how many Pit Bulls or Rottweilers caused a human fatality has little applicable value, only when examining each case individually can we hope to gain insight into the HUMAN and CANINE behaviors that contributed to these tragic events.

A fairer solution would be to treat the owner of a pit bull, in law, as if he personally committed any violent act the pit bull committed.
That is, if a pit bull mauls your infant son to death, you are convicted for the second degree murder of your infant son.
Of course, the ACLU would have a field day with that one, so the only practical thing to do is dispose of the breed.
How are folks supposed to protect their meth labs without pit bulls.
Outlaw stupid people who place dangerous dogs in the same room as their helpless kids. Perhaps the kid is in a better place now.

I had one of these dogs through a rescue program...he was a great, very smart dog...pitbull mixed with German Shep. but one day 4 years in our home he turned incredibly nasty and biting for no reason what-so-ever. Breeding of these hybrids really needs to stop. They can “change” in a moments notice even years later.
