I'm with you. I've never heard of a collie, irish setter, or sheltie maul a kid to death -- no matter how the dog was raised.
There is just something about Pit Bulls. I know, they can seem just fine, but they always seem to turn on little children for no apparent reason.
Something went wrong when the small children of the residents of the rest home would come for a visit. Perhaps the dog was trained to bite little kids, or the dog was jealous of the attention the residents gave to the small children.
Nevertheless, the collie bit a deaf girl that was visiting. We questioned it because perhaps she had stepped on the dog and did not hear it yelp. But the 2nd and third small children bites, which were very close together, were enough. We had the dog put to sleep.

Pit bulls and rottweilers account for over half of the deaths caused by dogs. But nowhere near half of the attacks.
LOTS of things that we take for granted are FAR more dangerous for UNSUPERVISED children than PITs & MORE likely to cause HARM to the child or other people.
FOR EXAMPLE: matches, gasoline, axes, saws, guns, power tools, motor vehicles, bicycles, etc. should NEVER be handles without responsible supervision by an adult.
would YOU allow your child's UNSUPERVISED access to ANY of the above items??? (i think NOT!)

Chihuahuas would, but it’d take ‘em forever.
Seriously, if you have to lock the family pet up to keep the children safe, there’s something wrong with the dog.
I've been bitten by a dog twice in my 56 years both time totally unprovoked both times by collie's

Im sure they would if raised very, very poorly. The problem with pitbulls is you can raise one fine and it likely still attack a kid if it gets spooked or upset.
