Toledo Blade: 'Special Squads of Police' Should Disarm Americans
Newsbusters.org ^ | 4/27/07 | Warner Todd Huston

Posted on 04/27/2007 9:22:47 AM PDT by Mobile Vulgus

Since the VT shootings in Blacksburg, Virginia, we have seen all manner of wild-eyed, anti-gunners come out of the woodwork to cynically use this crime as a chance to beat their gun grabbing drums. But, proposing that we send government Stormtroopers to smash down the doors of every home with a gun in it to confiscate their Constitutionally legal firearms is a step I haven't seen in a purportedly responsible newspaper. That is, until the Toledo Blade published a proposal for taking away our right to self-protection that included "Special squads of police" with unlimited powers to confiscate all guns. A hit squad that would traipse about the country invading homes at will and accosting peaceful citizens everywhere.

The author of this tyrannical proposal is Dan Simpson, who is described as "a retired Ambassador" and a "member of the editorial boards of The Blade and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. " He is a former US Ambassador to various African states... which can easily be read to mean one who thinks government knows best, darn the citizen's rights, apparently.

The piece that oozes from his pen seems overly long, the first half being an attempt by this anti-gun advocate to make it seem as if he really loves guns. After all, he played Cowboys and Indians as a kid and also had a Red Ryder BB gun. Then, later in life, carried a .357 as a "diplomat". But after the hard to believe disclaimers are dispensed with, Simpson launches into his gun banning proposal.

Now, how would one disarm the American population? First of all, federal or state laws would need to make it a crime punishable by a $1,000 fine and one year in prison per weapon to possess a firearm. The population would then be given three months to turn in their guns, without penalty.
There is a major problem legally with this supposed diplomat's plans. He never once mentions that the 2nd Amendment is a Constitutional right of the people to keep and bear arms. His proposal is completely illegal according to the Constitution of the USA unless a Constitutional Convention is called to consider amending the law of the land. One would think that an "Ambassador" would be interested in little things like following the law... but apparently not Mr. Simpson.

Worse, and as mentioned, he wants to form a veritable Stormtrooper army that will maraud throughout the country.

The disarmament process would begin after the initial three-month amnesty. Special squads of police would be formed and trained to carry out the work. Then, on a random basis to permit no advance warning, city blocks and stretches of suburban and rural areas would be cordoned off and searches carried out in every business, dwelling, and empty building. All firearms would be seized. The owners of weapons found in the searches would be prosecuted: $1,000 and one year in prison for each firearm.

... On the streets it would be a question of stop-and-search of anyone, even grandma with her walker, with the same penalties for "carrying."

Perhaps Mr. Simpson became too used to the despotic, all powerful leaders in the failed African states to which he was sent as Ambassador and their style of autocratic government made him envious. But whatever the case, Simpson truly has no grasp of the country in which he lives because he doesn't mention any of it. No mention of the Constitution, our history, world history and the despots who ruled with an iron fist over an unarmed populace, or the principles upon which this country was founded make even a tiny appearance in his piece. Just his desire to hand all power to his hand picked goon squad who will roam about the country attacking law abiding citizens.

The hit squad Simpson envisions isn't his only anti-gun measure, of course.

He proposes gun dealers still be "allowed" to sell guns but only to museums. He thinks hunters should still be allowed their gun but he has created his own ideas of a classified "hunting weapon" that will have to be locked up with the police except during "hunting season" -- a vague notion in Simpson's mind obviously. After all, "hunting seasons" are different all over the place and allow for hunting different types of game all year long. Obviously Simpson has no clue of what "hunting season" really means. His idea would necessitate a Federal Hunting law, and would take more power from the various states.

Speaking of hunters, Simpson appears to imagine that all hunters are mass murderers just waiting for their chance to kill all around them, too. But, that their murdering rampages might be a "lesser sort of issue."

There could conceivably also be a rash of score-settling during hunting season as people drew out their weapons, ostensibly to shoot squirrels and deer, and began eliminating various of their perceived two-footed enemies. Given the general nature of hunting weapons and the fact that such killings are frequently time-sensitive, that seems a lesser sort of issue.
Simpson also seems to imagine that Mexico and Canada would rush into the gun selling business once we illegally outlaw them and send our Stormtrooping armies throughout the country to confiscate US citizen's firearms.
America's long land and sea borders present another kind of problem. It is easy to imagine mega-gun dealerships installing themselves in Mexico, and perhaps in more remote parts of the Canadian border area, to funnel guns into the United States. That would constitute a problem for American immigration authorities and the U.S. Coast Guard, but not an insurmountable one over time.
Yet, both Mexico and Canada have stricter gun laws than do we, so how he imagines that they would suddenly both become the virtual WalMart of guns is hard to imagine.

All in all, Simpson has done nothing but reveal that he thinks he is smarter than everyone around him and that only HE should be allowed to make all the rules. He also imagines himself smarter than the Founders as well as more able than the Supreme Court to adjudicate what should be allowable under the US Constitution.

It is no wonder that this man doesn't understand America, he seems quite unlike one.

I guess he wants squads of citizens to form and retaliate by assassinating his special squads of nazi stormtroopers.

Better targets would be the politicians and high level bureaucrats that made it possible.

I’ll shoot any one dead who breaks into my home without a warrant - especially gun-grabbing cops. They’ve been warned.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

What the heck makes you think that they will NOT have a WARRANT !!!

Had a conversation with a few cops many years ago. Over a couple beers a friend asked if or when such a order went out to seize all firearms, would they do it?

To a man, they all said that they would. They would feel bad about it, but they would as it was their job.

My friend then said “Send only single guys when you come for mine.” and walked out. Many, many, cops in this nation do not like the idea of armed civilians.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The most scary conversation I have ever heard a report of.

Can you say “1939 Germany?”, (I was just doing my job.)

Actually I don’t think that’s quite right.
That would be the USA _after_ Hillary.
Right after the new president is sworn in sometime in 2010.
This is why her choice of VP is very important.

Reminder:
There IS a US militia.
It IS drawn from “the people”.
It IS well-regulated, in terms of being well-equipped, well-trained, and suitably coordinated.
The sniper division alone consists of 18 MILLION members, actively engaging in annual live-target, live-fire war games, with each fully equipped with high-power long-range rifles, cammo, comms, transport, coordination, logistics, etc. That their annual war game is code-named “Deer Season” should not cause one to dismiss the capabilities of this militia.

Remember that, would-be tyrants.

Why would he set the fine at only $1,000? After all, he expects a year in jail as well. Maybe he’s concerned about all the poor people who have guns.

Good morning. Post 226 is a good reminder.

Thomas Jefferson figured we would have a "revolution" every hundred years or so. He said, "...the Tree of Liberty will [must] be refreshed by the blood of tyrants and patriots." [Paraphrase]

Methinks Jefferson figured right...

I posted this on an earlier thread on this topic. Someone there suggested: delete the word “gun” and insert the word “liberal” I agree, when do we start rounding them up? I thought it was a worthwhile exercise so here it is:

Safeguarding Society From Liberals

In the follow up to a major Al-Qaida strike where millions of Americans die, it becomes painfully clear that the internal enemies who have aided and abetted the terrorists via actions such as the unilateral surrender they have engineered in Iraq, are as guilty as the illegal immigrant terrorist cells that committed the American Atrocity, as it came to be known.Large segments of the population become extremely motivated to clean society of the overwhelming danger posed by liberals.

Now, how would one politically cleanse the American population of Socialists and Liberals? First of all, federal or state laws would need to make it a crime punishable by a $1,000 fine and one year in prison to contribute to banned organizations, including the Democratic Party.

Publications such as the NY Times, Newsweek and the Washington Post would be required to immediately cease daily publication, and leftist networks such as MSNBC and PBS would be taken off the air.

The population would then be given three months to turn in (or surrender in the case of compliant individuals)identified leftists. This would include political, social and leftist-cause leaders, and all proselytizing homosexuals and other deviants.

It would certainly include nearly all Democratic politicians, and leading media figures.

Special panels of known and reliable conservatives drawn from organizations like local churches, the American Legion, and Operation Rescue would be formed to complete the local lists needed to implement the internment, as was done in WW2 with the Japanese.

Leftists would be able to deposit their leaders in a centrally located internment centers, heavily guarded, similar to those used to hold suspected Japanese in World War 2. The leaders and leftists would be able to visit family on special occasions in the case where the entire clan was not implicated in fomenting Socialism in America.

The liberals would be required to be redeposited at the end of the allotted visitation on pain of arrest.

When relatives submit a request for their leftist relations, federal, state, and local checks would be made to establish that they had not been convicted of a violent crime since the last time they withdrew their liberal relatives.

In the process, camp staff would take at least a quick look at each visitor to try to affirm that he was not obviously an undiscovered liberal.

It would have to be the case that the term "liberal leaning" did not include people who's primary support of liberalism was merely through volunteer efforts at organizations such as the Red Cross. Little effort would be made to spare union organizers, Greenpeace style ecologists, persons supporting open borders, and first amendment fetishists, however, from the charge of criminal liberal sedition and internment.

All antique or interesting socialist and liberal media collections, including the works of Marx, Mao and Clinton, would be required to be delivered to a local or regional museum, also to be under strict 24-hour-a-day guard. There they would be on display, if the owner desired, as part of an interesting exhibit of antique American propaganda, as family heirlooms from proud wars past or as part of collections.

Rare book dealers could continue their work, selling unique publications. They would be required to maintain very tight inventories. Any liberal publication sold would be delivered immediately by the dealer to the nearest limited circulation library or the museum, not to the buyer.

The cleansing process would begin after the initial three-month amnesty. Special squads of police would be formed and trained to carry out the work. Then, on a random basis to permit no advance warning, city blocks and stretches of suburban and rural areas would be cordoned off and searches carried out in every business, dwelling, and empty building. All liberals would be seized. Those harboring liberals found in the searches would be prosecuted: $1,000 and one year in prison for each person hidden from required internment.

Clearly, since such sweeps could not take place all across the country at the same time. But fairly quickly there would begin to be socialist-swept, liberal-free areas where there should be no remaining leftists. If pockets popped up, those hiding them would be subject to quick arrest and detainment.

On the streets it would be a question of stop-and-question anyone, even grandma with her walker, with the same penalties for "holding banned liberal beliefs"

The "free speech lobby" would no doubt try to head off in the courts the new laws and the actions to implement them. They might succeed in doing so, although the new approach would undoubtedly prompt new, vigorous debate on the subject. In any case, some jurisdictions would undoubtedly take the opportunity of the chronic slowness of the courts to begin implementing the new approach.

America's long land and sea borders present another kind of problem. It is easy to imagine continued attempts to smuggle leftists in from Mexico, along with banned types such as illegal aliens, and perhaps in more remote parts of the Canadian border area, to funnel socialists into the United States.

That would constitute a problem for American immigration authorities and the U.S. Coast Guard, but not an insurmountable one over time.

There could conceivably also be a rash of resistance when the internments began. Given the general nature of liberals and the fact that they have a known obsessive fear of guns and weapons, that seems a lesser sort of issue. That is my idea of how it could be done. The desire to do so on the part of the American people is another question altogether, but one clearly raised again by the ongoing terrorist killings effecting our nation.

Wonder if the Toronto Blade would print THIS as a 'thought provoking piece'. I think not

The stronger the efforts to DIS-arm Americans will only further the goals of America to retain its legal right to bear arms.

The only solution is to copy what Israel has done.

Unfortunately, the training of the US serviceman in the Army and Marine Corps fosters this type of scenario. Additionally, several generations of younger Americans now associate any handgun with immediate violent death.

From my generation of kids who grew up on ranches and farms, somebody pointing a .22 at them revealed they were stupid enough about firearms to use a weapon that would most likely not kill or stop their opponent, but also revealed their intent to use force to violate their fellow man’s volition. Accordingly, pointing .22 merely gave the target carte blanche to attack the gunholder and bludgeon him to death.

Today’s generation has been suckled on Hollywood and TV versions of gunplay where any gunshot either results in instant death or incapacitation of the target.

Consider the recent VA Tech shootings and public reaction to the premise of a lone gunman. Today the first thought is to ‘play dead’, whereas 50 years ago the first thought would have been to charge the gunman and later debate if he should be hung from the balcony by lamp cord or turned over to authorities.

The dynamics of violating another’s volition, though, doesn’t stop with the success of either proponent or opponent of these measures.

If firearms are removed from the public, those in control will merely be less satiated in their ability to control things they perceive, which don’t flow according to their preconceptions.

Now that's quite ambitious, Jack Black. Maybe there's a quicker way -- a way that will minimize time and resistance.

From a practical standpoint, it might be quicker to just read it to a handful of key socialist commie libs and tyrants and title it, 'Now is the time. Repent or leave -- and take the horses you rode here on with you!'

The day will come, I fear, that we all will conclude that we just can't afford to let the purveyors of chaos destroy what's left of our heritage. When that day comes, I think it will only take a week or two to set their movement back a thousand years or so.

And when the crazies hit the tripwire, perhaps with something as outrageously stupid as attempted gun confiscation they will realize we've been watching them all the while and have had them in our cross-hairs.

I'm sure the cloud of dust the perps will leave heading out across the borders will make the illegal alien exodus from Mexico look like a mere puff of stale cigar smoke in comparison.

They've been flying their turncoat colors for decades. It's time we prepare to re-capture the 'hill' and take back our nation.

When our troops return, let's do what we can to insure they they will be returning to the land of their Fathers -- and not some third-world country that has capitulated to the hand of tyrants.
