The Warren County Sheriff's Office says its seeks the public's assistance in locating two elderly women from Warren County.

Mary Ellen Walters, 68, and Ada Wasson, 80, were last seen last Thursday April 19th at Otterbein Retirement Living Community located at State Routes 741 and 63 in Warren County. The two women live in the Patio Homes section, which is an independent living area.

They are believed to be in Mrs. Wasson's’ silver 2000 Chevrolet Impala bearing Ohio registration DG 30 LC. The women were believed to have been traveling to a JC Penney outlet center either in Columbus, Ohio or Carrollton, Ky.

Friends and neighbors alerted sheriff’s detectives Sunday that the women had not returned when expected.

Detectives have not been able to locate any record of their whereabouts after leaving home. There has been no activity on any gas or credit cards belonging to the women.

Foul play is not suspected at this time, but police are concerned for the women’s safety.

Major John Newsom said detectives have exhausted most of their investigative options.

“We just need the public’s help at this point,” he said.

If you can help, call (513) 925-1280 during business hours or (513) 925-2525 after business hours.

###

UPDATE

There will be a search Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 27, 28, 29 - anywhere 50 miles east or west of I-71 from Columbus to Carrollton, KY. Grab a map, some posters and stake out a plot of territory to search. They could truly be anywhere.

Travel the roads less travelled and go down dirt roads and look down long driveways to abandoned homes. It would be great to hang a poster on "No Outlet" signs after driving down dead end roads so as to alert others that the road has already been searched.

Take a couple bottles of water and a snack in case you find them! They'll be thirsty and hungry!

For more information, or to print some posters, go to www.neighborsearch.info

A $5000 reward is being offered by the Warren County Sheriff's Office.

Thank you.

I understand that they did talk to a physic which pointed them toward Carrollton Kentucky.

I just read that Wisconsin has a similar case. The woman there is much younger (Mahalia Xiong). They can’t find her or her car either.

I am going to try searching the internet just in case I missed some news on Ada or Mary Ellen.

Their car has to be underwater or inside something to be hidden this long.

I read the post in the WI case and it jogged my memory on this case. I am sorry to see that they haven’t been found.

I was surprised to find an article about these two ladies on WEWS.com...my local news page...(a small bit)

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office said it’s still responding to tips and checking out sightings. This weekend, the family organized a search for a rural area in Turtlecreek Township. At Otterbein, friends are hoping for the best, but believe their best hope is that something can be learned from all of this.

That sounds like the same article I read. I check this site almost daily. I still think they are close to home. I can not see elderly women taking a long drive that late in the day.

I have to agree.....sounds like they never went shopping because either something happen to them before they could get there OR they never planned on going shopping to begin with.

I have been following the missing British girl’s case...it seems like she also disappeared into thin air...

I found references to Illinois in some blogs I found about Ada and Mary Ellen.

One person wrote something about a picture of a car in Illinois which he said he had forwarded to police.

Another claimed to have seen Ada and Mary Ellen in Effingham, Illinois at a Hardee’s restaurant. I think he said it was on May 6th or 7th. He said he had reported the sighting to police. He said Ada was the dominant one. That Mary Ellen was helpless without Ada’s assistance. He said Mary Ellen was wearing a top like the one in the poster.

I discounted the one about the car. But, then I found the second one. I doubt they would be this far away; but, it does make me wonder after reading the second one.

wow...so there mite be hope? I mean if he described things that look true to relatives. One would have to wonder where they have been living, and how they would pay for things like food and clothes and gas? Since one of them had a hubby and left her dog one would want to think that it was just a trip to the store. But if they ran into car trouble or got lost they could call someone. I wonder if the family is still searching? I mean so much time has gone by they could be anywhere.

I think just about everyone now assumes either a horrible accident or foul play.

A wrong turn on a dark road can lead to driving directly into some lakes because of poorly sited and poorly marked boat ramps,as well as large ponds and streams near lightly travelled roads.Only in a few cases is the water so transparent that a car submerged a few feet beneath the surface would be noticed.Several persons have died mistakenly driving into one Indiana (Brookville?)lake via the boat ramp after dark.

As for criminal activity, cars can be hidden in barns, garages,or old factories and taken apart or shipped out in a box truck or hauled off in one of the thousands of enclosed trailers seen every day.Cars can even be buried;a goofy neighbor buried his decrepit station wagon years ago rather than just calling up the junkyard. He thought he would have to pay to have it removed, but he did have a company back-hoe sitting there ,so.......

Since no credit cards use has shown up in all this time,I have to lean towards the "accidentally drove into water or ravine" theory.Of course the police will also be watching the relatives in regards to how they act, life insurance claims and so on.Sadly,a number of missing persons cases are disguised killings by relatives.

Forgot to mention that any caregivers at the living center will/should also be looked at;sometimes the wealth of the comfortable retiree is too much a temptation to a larcenous housecleaner or attendant.

As a society,it is odd how little checking is done of,and how low the wages are, of persons who clean our factories and medical institutes, give assistive care to the eldery and handicapped, and also watch our factories for unwanted activities.Too many people think such work is not important until it is their property or person being cared for,yet still few are willing to spend the money for screening and pay.

Hi Hoosierham

Back when this happen i had to wonder why 3 days went by and the ladies were not checked on...it was not until a daughter(i think) was to come over on Sunday and the neighbors told them they had been gone and the dog had been barking for 3 days(why didn't a neighbor contact family then...hey your mom is gone and the dog is going crazy, maybe someone can take a look?) Plus one of the ladies had tried to commit suicide? I believe in March? At that time i said that if my mom had not said she was gonna be away and i call and didn't get her in one day i would be on the phone to my sister or in the car to go check. I think it's a shame these days that some people let odd things go on and never bother to check or call someone. Not sure how much money these ladies had with them, but since none was taken out of accounts i would have to say that whatever happen, happen that day. It is a real shame!!

I would have to agree about any bodies of water....near their home or on the way to where they thought they were going....I wonder if they were all checked?

I guess we dont know the number of adults that go missing until we read about them in the news. I have not seen any other news about them. Sad...Very Sad!!

Yes, a “mite of hope” describes it. I think it is unlikely to be them. That is almost three months ago. The police probably checked it out already. But, two posts for Illinois seems strange.

Still, we have not found them or the car. Until we do, we can not rule anything out.

On my news page today.....

LAKEMORE, Ohio — A couple in their mid-80s has gone missing, according to officials.
Fred, 87, and Ruth Snowden, 86, were last seen early Saturday evening and officials believe that they disappeared sometime Sunday.
“It’s just like they disappeared, like they left the garage and just disappeared,” said Fred Snowden, their son.

This one had a happy ending. The couple returned home on their own today. Apparently, they just were driving around Ohio.

The leaves are falling off the trees. Will the leaves cover up the car?

I wonder if they will start having the search parties out again?

How long before enough leaves fall so they can resume aerial searches?

actually a few leaves have started to fall here (early this year i think) Oct usually has all the leaves in full color...so i’m thinking sometime in Nov. to have enough leaves off the trees. I hope they find something. It has been a long time and not a thing. Very sad!!

That information from Illinois is still bugging me. I know it is not likely to be them; but, I keep wondering about it. The guy seemed so sure it was them. He said he reported it to the police but no one contacted him.

I looked up Effingham, Illinois on Google Earth. Interstate 70 and route 40 (National Road) both go right through there and route 45 would have taken them to Kentucky.
