WASHINGTON - A defiant Democratic-controlled Senate passed legislation Thursday that would require the start of troop withdrawals from Iraq by Oct. 1, propelling Congress toward a historic veto showdown with President Bush on the war.
The 51-46 vote was largely along party lines, and like House passage of the same bill a day earlier, fell far short of the two-thirds margin needed to overturn the president's threatened veto. Neverthe less, the legislation is the first binding challenge on the war that Democrats have managed to send to Bush since they reclaimed control of both houses of Congress in January.
That may be the most devastating political cartoon I’ve ever seen.
Unfortunately it’s true and not at all funny.
Looks like Liberman voted for it.
Good for Joe Lieberman for voting on the right side of this one.
Notice the bias in not mentioning Joe Lieberman, but taking the time to mention Soviet Sanders.
Re McCain, that sure shows his sure-footedness in trying to win the conservative vote, doesn't it? Stupid of him IMO. Graham is McCain's shadow, so I guess he didn't consider it important either.
Defeatocrats Clinton and Obama are running, yet they somehow managed to show up for this vote. Republican Brownback is running, and he showed up. Funny how McVain chose to sidestep this vote.
If this were the old Soviet Union, they'd be inundating us with photos of Sanders in a business suit weighted down with Hero Medals.
Sickening or what?
This is gonna get vetoed. But what I fear is the islamowhackos taking the house and senate votes as crumbling support for our troops and that all they have to do is kill more Americans in Iraq and Afghanistan as quickly as possible. The shenanigans by the rat’s will result in more blood on their hands. Their playing with fire here and our boys are gonna take the brunt of it overseas. If they really want to retreat, defund the war or else shut up and quit aiding the enemy.
The "Conscience of the Senate" has lived up to the designation on this one.
I just made an online donation of $50 to Jon Bruning.
McQueeg’s out on the road campaigning. I’m not sure why Pandsey didn’t vote.

Ah, missed it.
Was looking for her in the R’s, as Rodham-Clinton.
Now it’s our prez turn. Go George go!
Are you kidding me? That is no excuse. He will NEVER be C-i-C, but he is currently a United States SINator.
If he is unable to vote on the most important issue of our time, he needs to resign the SINate and go campaign full time.
what i would like to see is a list of all the “pork” contained in this bill....the people that have added their own agendas need to be outed as well ...not just for being cowards but for being self serving while our troops fight the fight.
