Hunter fares well with GOP group

U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter scored high in a recent straw poll of members of the California Republican Assembly, a conservative group of volunteers that Ronald Reagan once called the "conscience" of the Republican Party.

Hunter, R-El Cajon, spoke to a gathering of the group in Orange County last week and drew 22 votes or 19 percent of the ballots cast in the poll, tying him with former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

Coming in first in the poll was a man not even officially in the race, former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson, who drew 28 votes. Thompson is considering entering the GOP field.

"I am grateful to the conservatives for giving my campaign a huge boost," Hunter said in a prepared statement released by his campaign. "I believe I stand for the principles that are important to the families of America."

Hunter also won a straw poll in Anderson County, S.C., last week. He has been concentrating much of his effort in South Carolina, an early primary state in the 2008 presidential race.

I like the idea of a Hunter-Thompson ticket!!

Me too. If we don't elect Hunter/Thompson, Hillary will win. :-)

Thats a ticket nobody could beat. They would run circles around the Dems, forget about it, they don’t have an answer to that combo. Put Rudy in charge of FEMA.

Sam, if elected, what would your father do to bring the Iraq war to a successful conclusion?

Per the survey
Tancredo
Duncan Hunter 2 points behind
Brownback 17 points behind

If I estimate Fred Thompson’s views:
Hunter & Thompson tie
Tancredo 2 points behind

>The whole celebrity thing has consumed much of the GOP..<

In view of today’s worldwide turbulence, including Russia’s current muscle stretching, China’s major weapon build-up, and the daily open threats of destruction to Israel and the entire free world, particularly the West, by Iran and Al Queda, we would be wise in America to choose the man MOST capable of guiding us safely through the next decade. A man who has actually served in war; a man who has worked diligently for 26 years to provide our military with the best; a man who has begun building the Mexico border fence, seen positive improvement from it, and has sworn to see it completed; a man who understands the inequity of the free trade with China, and has the determination to level that playing field with FAIR trade; yes, a multi-issue man, strong and sure - DUNCAN HUNTER.

Not to mention, the staunchest pro-life, pro-gun, anti-”hate crimes”, anti-amnesty, pro-10th amendment, and strongest liberal basher in the race.

Thanks, pissant. That bore repeating. And may I add, 100% Second Amendment backer to the list?

I took the test and they said I fit well with Sam Brownback first. Huckabee was second and then Duncan Hunter. After that I go into Democrat area with Bill Richardson and then Hillary...

At least my top three candidates are Republicans!!!!

Oh funny. I actually apparently agree with Hillary more than I do with Rudy. Hillary was fifth. Rudy was like 10th. That to me is very telling.

..consider this article in context

DH has probably not spent $10 in CA--but if his message gets out concerning immigration, even this basket-case of a state may be in play...
