Former senator, commentator and actor Fred Thompson will provide regular opinion and analysis on ABCRadio.com. The network says the Fred Thompson Report will discuss issues and events that affect all Americans. Audio versions of many of the commentaries will also be made available on ABCRadio.com.
The Internet allows as never before a real dialogue among the American people. There has never been a more important time in recent history to be informed as a nation, and my hope is that my daily commentary will contribute to that discussion, said Thompson. Im looking forward to using the medium to its fullest.
There is a clear demand to hear from Senator Thompson. Its obvious that listeners, if not America, seek his leadership on issues that matter. Radio has already provided an excellent platform to inform and educate listeners seeking his opinionthe Fred Thompson Report is another extension to deliver his respected opinion, said John McConnell, SVP/Programming, ABC Radio Networks.
Thompson, a former Republican Senator from Tennessee is well known for his current television role on NBCs Law & Order. For the past year, Thompson has been working with ABC News Radio as a Special Program Host and Senior Analyst, hosting special reports and doing vacation fill-in for Paul Harvey.
Obviously I said nothing about YOU being able to ban those you wish. You do however appear to fit the definition of “malcontent”. Some of those recently banned are in NO way “liberals” and I do not try and see why they were banned. While it is not my business I do hate to see FR weakened in any way and see no strength in banning those with different ideas. As far as I am aware even acknowledged wild-eyed liberals like Murray Mom is allowed to post here.
One of the great strengths on FR was its ability to tolerate different viewpoints some even crazy. Just as one of the weaknesses of DU is the inability to tolerate even the slightest of deviation from the Party Line.
I figure you didn’t show up, becasue you knew what the thread was all about. You would have been hammered defending your liberalism in that atmosphere. I would have enjoyed seeing you make the effort to promote Rudy under those conditions. Maybe you were smart not to show up. OTOH, kinda cowardly of you at the same time. LOL
I've no doubt you're chase him/her from thread to thread whining "you're a liberal, you're a liberal".
Politics is not always straightforward and has plenty of twists, turns and reversal of courses. It is ridiculous to believe Rudy should approach governing the US in the same way as he did governing a city of the most rabid liberals in the nation. A surefire way to lost as mayor would be to run as a Reagan conservative.
911 changed the ways lots of people thought including Rudy.
We should be “wary” of all politicians all the time but not to the point that it prevents us from supporting candidates a majority of voters could support. All have made mistakes. All have had bad ideas.
The "Fairness Doctrine" doesn't enter into it. The relevant regulation is Equal Time. Broadcasters can't just hand over air time to one candidate for free. During the recall election, California broadcasters pulled their planned airings of Schwarzenegger movies; that might have been overreacting, but they decided to play it safe..
I don't see how Thompson could get out from under his NBC obligations -- never mind ABC -- to run for office. Thompson appears in over 100 Law & Order episodes, and pulling them from syndication would cost NBC a bundle. On the other hand, if those episodes appear only on cable, FCC regs might not apply.

In recent days, Jim and other FReepers have pointed out time and time again, that Free Republic is not a place that tolerates liberalism nor does it exist to debate liberal issues. FR exists to advance conservatism, promote conservative candidates and defend the Constitution.
If you don't understand FR`s mission, you're on the wrong political forum.
“Maybe I’m wrong, but I get the feeling that she’d be 100% behind Thompson if he’s the nominee.” Not only are you NOT wrong but that is true of every Rudy supporter I am aware of and it goes for Hunter and Mitt too.
Hmmm... I’m geting the feeling he won’t run, now. If he’s going to do this, then he’d have to quit or step down from this when/if he begins an actual campaign.
I’m kinda disheartened.
Can you imagine President Reagan (he of the 11th commandment) saying such things? And this guy claims to be a follower of his.
I liked him when he filled in for Paul Harvey.
This is a smart political move, IMO.
I don’t get that feeling I get the feeling he is saying to everyone “When I’m Good and Ready”.
FR has done a good job in barring extreme articles, which I think has helped keep it out the the conspiracy/far right camp.
However Rudy is a mainstream Republican candidate. Barring articles on his campaign would be counterproductive, depriving those who oppose him on the issues rather than his personal life of important information.
Agreed. This, hopefully,is only a little temporary detour.
Well this will definitely get him some airtime and will help him with people who don’t know who he is and with people who may have forgotten what he was like as a Senator. After all its been a long time. Its a different world now alot of the people who may have voted for him in the 1990’s may have gone on and there are plenty of new faces in their place who have never heard of him.
What YOU apparently cannot grasp is that posting articles for discussion is EXACTLY what FR excells at. It gives snarling malcontents like you a chance to spew. Left to your own devices you would just have a small number of people stroking each other and saying “You are right.”
Unlike at FR there is nothing to be learned from such a situation.
I’ve told you before, the 11th commandment was, and is a fallacy, but you keep mentioning it as though it was some kind of religious prayer.
Reagan didn’t even create the 11th commandment. California state GOP chairman Gaylord Parkinson created that slogan in 1966 during the race for Governor. It was meant to counter the attacks on Ronald Reagan from his GOP primary opponent, liberal San Francisco Mayor, George Christopher. For the next ten years that slogan was dormant in the political arena. To my knowledge Reagan didn’t use it once.
In 1976 conservative Ronald Reagan challenged Pres Ford for the GOP nomination. Reagan savaged Ford with attacks on both his domestic and foreign policy agenda and rightly so. The Ford campaign slung some mud at Reagan calling him a cowboy and unqualified to be POTUS. This contentious campaigning went on through the primaries and into the GOP convention. In the primaries, Ford won 15 states and Reagan won 12 states in the closet primary election phase in US history. Ford beat Reagan for the nomination, 1187 delegate votes to 1070. Reagan lost the nomination by 60 votes!
My point being, not criticizing and/or attacking your political opponent has not been the case throughout US political history. That includes the political campaigns of Ronald Reagan. The Founding Fathers were real good at taking down their political opponents too. Just review US history.
Could be.
You don’t understand the intent of the Lickspittles. They can tolerate no candidates THEY don’t approve of and want NO information about them or their doings. They want to be able to CENSOR all thought they don’t like. It is a sign of great weakness.
