Thompson To Offer Daily Commentary On ABCRadio.com
RadioInk ^ | 4/25/07

Posted on 04/25/2007 8:30:48 AM PDT by areafiftyone

Former senator, commentator and actor Fred Thompson will provide regular opinion and analysis on ABCRadio.com. The network says the “Fred Thompson Report” will discuss issues and events that affect all Americans. Audio versions of many of the commentaries will also be made available on ABCRadio.com.

“The Internet allows – as never before – a real dialogue among the American people. There has never been a more important time in recent history to be informed as a nation, and my hope is that my daily commentary will contribute to that discussion,” said Thompson. “I’m looking forward to using the medium to its fullest.”

“There is a clear demand to hear from Senator Thompson. It’s obvious that listeners, if not America, seek his leadership on issues that matter. Radio has already provided an excellent platform to inform and educate listeners seeking his opinion—the ‘Fred Thompson Report’ is another extension to deliver his respected opinion,” said John McConnell, SVP/Programming, ABC Radio Networks.

Thompson, a former Republican Senator from Tennessee is well known for his current television role on NBC’s “Law & Order.” For the past year, Thompson has been working with ABC News Radio as a Special Program Host and Senior Analyst, hosting special reports and doing vacation fill-in for Paul Harvey.

The chief RudyBooster on FR finally speaks up.
Does she answer my question? No!

Acting as though Fred Thompson is somehow acceptable to you, is a pathetic joke.

Don’t play games with me. I really wish you’d stick to posting pro-Rudy stuff. The sooner you’re outta here, the better for Free Republic.

I know. I've witnessed what's going on too, and I'm not at all happy about it. As a matter of fact, I have one foot out the door too and my other foot wants to follow.

I'm sure a lot of us feel the same way. I'm looking at an open door, too, but not looking to step out just yet. FR is my home page and provides more good, solid news and information than any other forums I have seen, many of which are much more opinionated than here. It's the diversity of posters that makes us so powerful, so when long-time posters leave over this, I'm just about heart-broken. I agree with Jim's positions but would like to be able to agree to disagree.

Perhaps taking this ABC Radio gig would actually be a step TOWARD running: Lots of exposure over the airwaves through the summer, building up name recognition and support . . .

How much do you think the other candidates would pay to be on the radio every day like this?

How much is it worth? $20 million? $50 million?

Fred has already stated that if he decides to run he'll do it differently than anyone has ever done before using the internet and other media.

Interview with John Fund

But Mr. Thompson appears serene about all the speculation swirling around him. "Those running are all good guys, and would be good presidents," he says leaning back in a recliner. "But there are truly vital issues--from the looming entitlement crisis to nuclear proliferation--I'm not afraid to talk about. Lots of people have such a low regard for politicians that they're open to a campaign that would be completely different."

So how would a possible Thompson campaign be distinctive? "Politics is now one big 24-hour news cycle, but we seem to spend less time than ever on real substance," he muses. "What if someone harnessed the Internet and other technologies and insisted in talking about real issues in more depth than consultants would advise? What if they took risks with their race in hopes that the risks to our children could be reduced through building a mandate for good policy?"

I think he's following through on that promise. :)

If JimRob gets his way and I think he will, the days of endless pro-Rudy threads and posts promoting his candidacy are over.

>>>>>Without those threads traffic at FR would be reduced to a pitiful crawl.

You are way off base and obviously you don't know what you're talking about.

Promoting conservative candidates, advancing conservatism and defending the Constitution is what this forum is ALL about. Sorry you find that to be bullying.

The campaigns for the President used to not involve the people. State conventions would nominate candidates and national conventions would make the final selection. There were no primaries or popular campaigning. Primaries are a fairly recent phenomenon.

And after they became common they were spread out all over the calender for six months. Remember RFK getting shot after the California primary in June of 68. Now primary season is going to be over in March.

No I won't. And there is nothing vicious about posting the truth. A51 posted hundreds of threads that promoted a liberal to be the GOP nominee. I wasn't the only one who found these endless pronouncements favoring Rudy to be outrageous and revolting. Guess you must've enjoyed them yourself. That speaks volumes about your politics.

In this case, paybacks are justified.

You can't be serious. A51 is not interested in FredT! She is making this post to take some heat off her 8 months and hundreds of posts favoring Rudy the liberal. Open your eyes!

No I find YOU and those trying to suck up to be bullying. There is NO idea which bullies anyone here.

Having spent as much time here as almost anyone I know exactly what I am speaking of. Rudy threads would have disappeared quicker than an Economics one through Non-interest had they not been popular.

It is particularly interesting to watch you try and draw Jim to your pathetic attacks on people too.

Document that.

Political commentary is not any kind of advertising.

My point about Fred is simple IF he really wants to run and win he needs to announce NOW. The longer he waits to do so the more difficult it will be. And I wish him well and may very well vote for him.

I think you're missing something here. FT is getting more national exposure on political commentary, he's also in demand for speaking engagements at the same time, and HE's GETTING PAID to do all of it. The more he speaks and writes and talks on the subject of politics and government, the more conservatives are tuning in. We LIKE what we read and hear!

Meanwhile, all the other early candidates are SPENDING TONS of money for exposure. And may very well have peaked too early. It's like running the Kentucky Derby. If you're too fast out of the gate, your horse won't have the legs for the home stretch.

Personally, I think Fred's playing this very shrewdly. I seriously hope he runs. I'm not at all fond of any of the current Republican front runners. Too many RINO's in that bunch (and you know who they are) and I believe true conservatives are sick and tired of RINO's.

Come on Fred, lead us out of the RINO wilderness. PLEASE!

I like you, so don’t take this wrong, please.

Areafiftyone is fairly innocuous, if she stops posting snide comments that have been repeatedly denounced. (Such as “Fred said he won’t campaign hard.”)

I think maybe you should try to ignore her. Let her do her thing. We can take it.

You're delusional.

Its only fair to ping JimRob from time to time. Especially when he's making such a huge effort to purge FR of its more liberal posters. He wants to get this great forum back on the conservative track. If you were following what he's been posting lately, you wouldn't be so angry with me and others who are working with him ---- as all FReepers should be ---- to push the conservative goals and objectives of this forum to the forefront. Were they belong.

Promoting liberalism is not a goal of FR.

>>>>>>I think maybe you should try to ignore her. Let her do her thing. We can take it.

The days of taking it without striking back are OVER! I've been making my best effort to ignore her for the last eight months. Enough is enough. The hundreds of threads shes made and the thousands of posts they've garnered, has worked to undermine the conservative message of FR. All you need to do is read of of Jim`s threads and posts to understand, he has had enough. And so has most FReepers. A51 is the #1 RudyBooster around this forum. In the beginning, her activity projecting Rudy`s candidacy on FR was a novelty. The novelty wore off months ago.

Why does the term “Jack-booted thug” come to mind?

(and I’m not referring to the forum’s owner)

For reference, I’ve posted a total of 714 threads, made 17,490 replies, and am not delusional.

Do you post anything that's not the equivalent of, "nayayayay you're gonna get banned?" I'd label that pathetic but I'd hate to denigrate losers everywhere in the process.

The sad part is that you actually believe you're in some small way politically informed. Oh well, at least I get the occasional chuckle from your juvenile antics.

What is sad and pathetic is you! I see you’re still a knucklehead, whose learned absolutely nothing from your recent experiences with conservative FReepers on this forum. You fit perfect. Keep it up and you’ll be part of the liberal purge too.

Most of the serious candidates are not spending that much money yet. And they are still raising plenty. In these campaigns it is critical to build an organization and reach out to other politicians. This is what will make Rudy difficult to beat since he has been doing just that for over a year all over the nation.

While the frontrunner sometimes loses in the Kentucky Derby there never has been a winner who wasn’t on the track when the race started. And the horses are coming into the starting gate.

Had conservatives not been wiped out last fall we might not even be commiserating over this. Santorum and Allen, if re-elected, would have been VERY strong.
