"National Lampoon's Animal House" is one of the most beloved comedies of all time. Now, the roadhouse where one memorable scene from the film was shot is on the offering block again.
"Animal House" wouldn't be "Animal House" without the Dexter Lake Club, the venue where Otter, Boon, Flounder and Pinto found their favorite music group, Otis Day and the Knights, singing "Shama Lama Ding Dong." The 1978 film was shot throughout Lane County, but the club near the lake with the neon sign is one of the most recognizable locations. Now the 50-plus-year-old building, which in recent years has served as a diner and floral shop, is on the market with an asking price of $259,000.
"I think it would be a great little place," real estate agent Shaunna Durham says of the 2,444-square-foot rural commercial space, which has been on the market for two months. "It's a nice diner."
"And I'm sure you could pull a lot of business from the (University of Oregon) having themed toga parties."
Located in the town of Dexter just off Highway 58, the club has been owned by the partnership BJ Properties for the past five years.
The bar and lounge portion of the business used to be a common gathering spot for locals in search of a drink and some live music on weekends, but has been out of use for years.
The front end of the business, which overlooks nearby Dexter Lake, has housed a series of mom-and-pop diners.
The Dexter Lake Club still has the neon rooftop sign that drew "Animal House" location scouts to the site in the fall of 1977. The film was set in the year 1962 and the lights that shout out the club's name and advertise "Cocktails" and "Dining" appealed to the film's producers

Primitive Cultures.
I want the car used at the end of the movie.
“Otis?! He LOVES us!!”
“Wait till Otis sees us...he loves us!”
I’ve never seen more than a few minutes of this pic. Or Caddyshack either.
Oh yeah, that scene was. But everything else was credible and sensitive.
Were you raised by a pack of wolves? How did you not see either of those movies?
Otter: Ladies and gentlemen, I’ll be brief. The issue here is not whether we broke a few rules, or took a few liberties with our female party guests - we did.
[winks at Dean Wormer]
Otter: But you can’t hold a whole fraternity responsible for the behavior of a few, sick twisted individuals. For if you do, then shouldn’t we blame the whole fraternity system? And if the whole fraternity system is guilty, then isn’t this an indictment of our educational institutions in general? I put it to you, Greg - isn’t this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but we’re not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America. Gentlemen!
