ALBANY, Ore. An Albany woman with a son in Iraq is raising money to buy his 82nd Airborne unit a machine that makes "Slurpee" type frozen carbonated drinks. Sharon Crary said her son, Pfc. Preston Crary, 21, a chaplain's assistant, asked for a machine that could make enough drinks to serve up to 100 soldiers at a time. Preston told his mother the machine would be a "great morale booster."

"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
Yay!! My nephew is in the 82nd over there right now, and I bet he’d LOVE a slurpee about now...
It would stay in Iraq when Preston rotates home in March or April 2008. His Army unit is a mixture of infantry, medics, mechanics and other support soldiers.
Because of red tape involved in raising the money and sending such a large item overseas, she has joined up with Give 2 The Troops, a nonpartisan, nonpolitical group formed to support deployed troops. Members try to get letters and care packages to soldiers in war zones.
“Working with the organization enables us to purchase the machine wholesale and provide a tax-deductible receipt to those making donations,” she said. “The machine costs about $1,600 with shipping and supplies, such as flavorings and cups. I figure the total cost will be about $2,500.”

Leave it to Airbone to think about Slurpees
I betcha a lot of them Iraqis already know how to use one.
And there would be thousands who would know how to operate it!
(oh, shame on me)
Most bases have them already in the PX, albeit the drinks are a little pricey. Free would certainly be good-for-the-troops! A frozen bottle of water + flavored drink crystals (free from the DFAC) works well too.
This is such a CUTE STORY Canteen members LOL!
There are some bases that are large enough to have PX’s and Burger Kings, but many aren’t.
It's encoded in the genes. You learn how to operate a slurpee machine at age 15 and lose it at 24 unless you practice.
Great story....good luck to them getting it over there with the least red tape as possible.
Sure would be nice if the folks that make the machines would donate one...I’d go buy a few Slurpees to help out. And if the military can get something as big as a tank into Iraq, looks like they might be able to squeeze in a lil old Slurpee machine.
At training we would eat this cake called something like Velvet Chocolate. It tasted like heaven, if heaven has a taste. Rowan once said before he died that the closest thing he got to that cake in Iraq was maybe some Wheat snack bread with some blood on it. There’s no I way can in good conscience not donate to help get this Slurpee machine overseas.
SLURRRRRRPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!
AAAAHHHHH!!!!
A Mother’s Love for Sons and Daughters!
I remember one time having cookies in care package that was my summer camp LOL!
This soldier turn out be true try get Sluppee machine would have lots of friend LOL!
Hell, we felt blessed if the damned rains would stop, or we had Sterno to provide a smokeless fire to heat a drink without signally our position, or if we had a clean change of clothing once a month, cross a stream without picking up leaches or had enough claymores, M60s and 81MMs set up to sleep peacefully......
How the times and expectations change...
But — Iraq and Afghanistan pose a set of horrors that I wouldn’t want to face..
The enemy and the people are one and the same......with no way to tell the difference until they decide to strike..

God Bless you river rat and welcome home. I have nothing but respect for our vets. I wish you were here so I could shake your hand and give you a hug.
Well now — If our family plans come to fruition and we leave California to move back home to be nearer to family, We’ll be locating somewhere near our daughter and my brothers in the area North of Alpharetta.
I might just come by for that hug!
They’re hard to come by, for us tall big boned spooky looking and nasty tempered, bald headed old men who have no patience with fools ..
Only little children smile back at us....
Amazing how they can see through the exterior.....
