Actually, I tend to believe that this is not the very first time Alec has lost his temper with this child. I also think this is not the first time he has been abusive (it just rolled off his tongue so easily.... as though it had been well practiced). If that is the case, she is choosing to protect herself in a manner that a 12 year old thinks is appropriate.
