BETHESDA, Md. - The first hints of trouble came with vague warnings from the outer reaches of the bureaucracy.
She was pushing too hard.
She was alarmist.
But it was something else a clumsy bid to call her off the scent of the dangerous veterinary drug she was tracking that really galled her. Maybe that was her last possible moment to keep soundless and safe.

Pet ping — this time drugs and FDA
I had to remind them every time after that not to give her the ProHeart again (until they stopped giving the shot to any dogs). The HeartGuard chews are just fine.
Thanks AC!
Human food next.
One of my dogs actually had that shot...two days before it was pulled off the market.
We spent 6 -long- months watching her very closely.
She’s fine now...I think.
The left worships alarmists.
When one of them turns out right, on rare occasion, they have org@sms over it.
FYI for anemia in cats & dogs (usually with kidney failure)
Do not let the vet use Erythropoietin (Epogen Procrit) on your animals. Opt for cross matching with a donor animal and get blood transfusions instead.
I meant to say this is if the bone marrow is not functioning properly and as the last resort—of course try supplementation first. Methyl B12 absorbs when regular b12 won’t and also liquid iron rich vitamins.
Thanks for posting.
My poor little Jack Russell named Buddy didn’t have a chance.
He had two of these shots at 6 month intervals, and was sick for weeks afterwards. We finally got smart enough to quit the shots.
We fed him dog food (slices in gravy) and Buddy lost his appetite and ate almost nothing for weeks. He drank a huge amount of water.
Then he died.
Trial lawyers.
However, I know next to nothing about this medication.
However the complete lack of any real details in this article makes me very skeptical.
The article says an alarming number of dogs were dying after being given this medication. Well how many is that? Were the deaths linked to the medication? Were there significantly more serious side effects with this drug as opposed to treating for heart worm by other methods?
There is some level of risk with any medication. Some dogs that have adverse reactions to one medication may not have such reactions to other medications.
The article was extremely sparse on details, and heavy on comments designed to invoke an emotional response.
Thanks for posting, AZCarolyn. By the way, I've got Ursa on Innova Evo. Three weeks so far, and the results are amazing. She's trimming down, she's calmer, her skin allergies have cleared up, and her fur has gone from dry and brittle to sleek and soft.
She's got that rottweiler sheen to her when she walks in the sunlight. Aswesome stuff. Thanks so much for your advice, and my cats and dog thank you too!
There were just as many reactions to Heartgard and Interceptor as there was to Proheart 6; the difference? Lawyers and the MSM....
Is it a regional thing?
I don’t know about it being a regional thing but I told my vets that I did not think my dogs needed heartworm meds (they are on Interceptor) since they stay indoors and in the backyard only.
They said the dogs still need this.
It costs a few hundred $$ per year for the stuff.
We ended up putting her down, money was tight and we just didn't want to gamble she would make it, and to let her die of it would be very cruel.
Years ago, before I was born (over thirty years ago), my parents briefly had a beagle in Portland, OR who they took on when he was already not doing well - he had heartworms, and ultimately died because of the effects.
I have no idea how common they really are, though. The vet back in Vermont recommended the preventative (Heartgard? Tablets of some sort), but I never actually heard of a dog getting heartworms there.
Hi - What is your opinion of Revolution?
I hesitate to get into this in detail here, but what a lot of natural feeders are finding is their dogs don’t attract fleas, ticks or mosquitos. A lot of people don’t understand how heartworm is spread or how poisonous the drugs for the HW prevention really is. I don’t do HW medication, I test my dogs for HW as a preventative since it is treatable IF you find your dog is infected.
Great news! Thanks for sharing.... yep, they don’t need grains that is a certainty... and isn’t it nice to see the results?
