A 1000 feet?

It would have to be a gas main to do that - short of a really big bomb...

It amazes me that we keep have the blasts in Texas at oil installations but it is NEVER a terrorist attack.

I think the Bush people are withholding the truth from the American people.

The explosion was caused by a leaking gas line. It was located near the intersection of E I-820 and Rosedale, which is in the former community of Handley adjacent to the Exelon Corporation's Handley Generating Plant.

It was on the property of the Handley Generating station at Loop 820 & Rosedale Street.

The ignition point was at the NW corner of the property at a pressure release vent. Ignition time was at 0715 CST and burned down to a lower flame by 0735.

I didn't make it past the plant before they closed off Rosedale St @ Handley Drive.

FYI, the same vent was roaring Thursday 04/19/07 at the same time of the morning (0715). No activity during in the area, but I didn't linger to find out if it was NG or steam.

The only time I've seen a burn off like that was on a drilling rig.

Isn’t ALGORE in that area visiting Crow and Laurie on their Earth Day bus to green up Algore’s wallet. The bus runs on methane and Algore offered to refuel them from his intestinal gases. Perhaps this was a refueling accident?

What amazes me is that right before the summer driving season every year, there is always some sort of refinery mishap or pipeline shutdown.......something!

Then gas prices soar. Then next you hear of RECORD profits from the oil and gas companies.

People here at work witnessed this on the way in and said it was bigger in the beginning before the helicopters got there to film it.

Luckily the nearby power station seems unscathed.

At 0715 this morning (CST) the Exelon generating station in Handley was blowing CNG out of a manifold.

This is the third time I have seen this happen this year. The second event was the one that caught fire.

The events always seem to start just after 0700 and I can hear it .5 miles away as I approach the plant.
