Al-Qaeda plans 'Hiroshima'
The Daily Telegraph ^ | 4/23/07

Posted on 04/23/2007 5:16:12 AM PDT by DogBarkTree

AL-QAEDA leaders in Iraq are planning the first "large-scale" terrorist attacks on Britain and other western targets with the help of supporters in Iran, according to a leaked intelligence report. Spy chiefs warn that one operative had said he was planning an attack on "a par with Hiroshima and Nagasaki" in an attempt to "shake the Roman throne", a reference to the West, according to The Times newspaper in the UK. Another plot could be timed to coincide with Tony Blair stepping down as prime minister, an event described by Al-Qaeda planners as a "change in the head of the company". The report, produced earlier this month and seen by The Sunday Times, appears to provide evidence that Al-Qaeda is active in Iran and has ambitions far beyond the improvised attacks it has been waging against British and American soldiers in Iraq. There is no evidence of a formal relationship between Al-Qaeda, a Sunni group, and the Shi’ite regime of President Mah-moud Ahmadinejad, but experts suggest that Iran’s leaders may be turning a blind eye to the terrorist organisation’s activities," reports The Times.

Yeah, well who isn't? There are probably sixty nations and ten thousand independent groups who would love to carry out such an attack on the USA if they had the means.

I’m weary, but we must be vigilant.

These folks have been fighting the West for 1500 years. Believe me, even the most ignorant, impoverished Muslim knows chapter and verse every affront (in their eyes) that has been perpetrated on them by any Western nation, or leader, and they blame ALL of us for anything that was ever said, or done.

No, actually that's a reference to Christianity for those who have any knowledge of history. The media is just clueless.

Does that mean they’re also going to pump billions of dollars into our reconstruction so that we can be an economic powerhouse in 40 years?

Somehow, I think all they want to do is turn us into another of the hellis pits of brutality, squalor, and genocide for which they’ve become famous.

And when it does, we better do something about it to bring it to a permanent end instead of doing what we’re doing now.

"shake the Roman throne"

I see this rather as a reference to the Vatican.

I'm planning on making a billion dollars and marrying Fabiana Udenio and Ann Coulter, but that's not going so well either.

The media is just clueless.

Not clueless, deceitful. They know exactly what the jihadis mean, and what kind of war it is in their eyes. They purposefully do not report this, because it would throw a monkey wrench into everything that they have reported about this conflict since the beginning.

I see it as a reference to the Vatican, too. The AQ nutcases do not mention Italy much in their ravings, although I do believe that Ahmanutjob in Iran said that his missiles would be able to reach Italy.

I was in Italy earlier this spring, and I will say that the Italian security forces - with their vast experience in dealing with the Red Brigades (which have revived) and the Mafia - are very vigilant and seem to have good sources of information. One of the dangers that Italy has, however, is that there are large numbers of people from the Balkans there. This has become a new criminal community, and I am sure it harbors many AQ members.

Well if it does happen you can be sure half the people in Europe and Congress will wonder what we did to deserve it. Of course if Britain wouldn’t have sided with the U.S. it would be ok.

I would guess a nuclear device could be hidden in the lead keel of boats where its virtually undetectable.
