“Sarkozy will not be able to mop up some of Le Pen’s or Bayrou’s supporters.”

Le Pen’s supporters will all go for Sarkozy. He’s a law-and-order, bust-heads kind of guy. Bayrou’s votes will split.

Interesting that Le Pen only picked up 11% of the vote. Sarkozy’s stances pulled the air out of the far right into his own camp. And he’s talked to and of Le Pen like a human being, so the FN will come out for Sarkozy.

Law and order will be restored in France. This will make France a better place to live.

It is a good result.

That would be a good result vicomte13, I would bet that Le Pen’s supporters want to have a voice, to not be ridiculed every election.

55% debt spent by the Government is not sustainable, neither is 65% of spending by Government in the economy.

But walking the streets were one would like is a attainable goal.

You are so right. Sarko already got a lot of le Pen supporters. He will most likely pick up more.

UDF members voted 82% Bayrou, 12% Sarko, 3% Royal, and 3% le Pen .

It is going to be a tough slog regardless for Sarko. The Socialists will be trotting out all the boogeymen. Sego favors raising the minimum wage by 19.6%. She still supports many of the socialist party policies that make it difficult to fire people. I am sure she will try to scare the elederly about social benefits. Sarko is by far the more polished candidate, the more experienced, and the better speaker, but the socialists are like the Dems in the way they can play the politics of personal destruction. It is going to get very dirty over the next two weeks.

Interesting that Le Pen only picked up 11% of the vote. Interesting, but not surprising. Le Pen's strongest supporters in the past have been seniors in the South, particularly those who served in the Algerian war. Many of them are now going to the boneyard, so I expected him to either plateau or decline in terms of vote share. Add to the fact that Sarko has a "law and order" record to run on (as opposed to the loudmouth ramblings of Jean Archie Bunquer-Le Pen), and I expected him to come in fourth or fifth.

Amazing how the PC in France has gone from a strong force to the political graveyard within my (31 year) lifetime. Jean Marchais must be spinning in his grave.
