ASHLAND, Ore. (AP) -- A candidate for Southern Oregon University student body president has admitted she was lying when she claimed she had a cousin who was killed in the Virginia Tech shootings.
Brandi Freeman spoke at a candlelight vigil held by students at the university campus in Ashland last night.
With tears streaming down her face, she had claimed she had lost her cousin in the shootings that left 33 dead at Virginia Tech.
By today, Freeman admitted to making up the story to appeal to voters for the student body election next week. She also said she suffers from bipolar disorder.
Freeman is a dean's list student and a member of the student senate. But she said she'll likely drop out of the student body elections because of her actions.
This is not far removed from John Edwards claiming that his father was a mill “worker” or Hillary Clinton claiming that she was a would-be Marine recruit or was always a Yankees fan. Surely, this is just a temporary setback for Ms. Brandi Freeman; she will go a long way in politics.

She should campaign with Al Gore as he pushes his Gorebull Warming BS, and she would become the perfect left wing liberal politician, a mentally ill liar.

That shouldn't be her decision, because the school should kick her out of the student body completely.

I don’t see how bipolar disorder could have caused her to do something so stupid. Most bipolars are pretty intelligent.

And though she’s been at the Ashland school already for five years, Freeman said she’s not going to be graduating soon; budget cuts mean that there are fewer classes offered, and they tend to fill up fast, making it hard for her to fulfill diploma requirements.

Since she’s admitted she’s crazy, she needs to be locked up to protect the other students on campus.

Well, if nothing else, hopefully her getting caught in her lie will give pause to any other little morons out there who try to pass off the same claim.
