Hosted at the mansion/home of former Denver Nuggets star Kiki Van De Weghe, the event was meant as a strict money gatherer for Giuliani's frontrunner campaign.
Only one problem: Giuliani is adamantly anti-gun, with a record to prove it.
Being the first in a series of collaborative efforts between Rocky Mountain Gun Owners and the National Association for Gun Rights, we wanted this one to be a surprise (to both the organizers of the event and the attendees). Rest assured we'll let you know when there is another event.
A small number of hardcore RMGO activists met outside the Cheeseman Park mansion, where valet attendants waited for the rich (tickets were $4000+ apiece for the personal discussion) to meet with the former New York mayor.
Dressed in nice clothes, with smiles on our faces, we handed out this flyer (http://www.nagr.org/Giuliani.pdf) to the fatcats as they walked in.
Thinking we were part of the event staff, they happily took the flyer as we said "If you care about your right to own firearms you'll want to see the incredible anti-gun record of Mayor Giuliani's."
Responses always vary, but few refused the flyer. Even John Elway read it, and seemed to be shocked by the label of "Liberal" on a Republican.
You can read the Rocky Mountain News account of the event here.
Friends, this kind of thing hurts politicians. It's extremely demoralizing to a politician and their staff when people aren't fawning all over them, trying to shake their hand, get a picture with them, and "get access" to someone with the kind of star power a frontrunner for president generates.

Gun nut?
Oh, the horror! Maybe someone should alert the Mods.
Quickly.

Heh. Good point, Graybeard.
Welcome to Free Republic, CTSeditor.
By gosh, I think you get it! There are no conservative Republicans that I know of in the NYS GOP. There might be some conservatives in the NYS Conservative Party who care about our Second Amendment rights, but none in the GOP who, when it gets down to the nitty-gritty, would vote to preserve our gun rights.
It’s not possible that both of us are from Colorado Springs. It’s just not possible.
Actually, I would argue that the Democrats have done so shamelessly, not shamefully.
Other than that, I do tend to agree... we need a streetfighter this time around. This is not the year we need Reagan... this year, we need Nixon.
LOL, looks like Rudy got pwn3d a little bit.
You were probably having a miserable time a few weeks ago when people posted all of those "blog" entries about the Gathering of Eagles in the News and Activism forum.
I agree. I think you're from the outer limits of the twilight zone, AKA. Liberalville.
Rudy Giuliani is not the only hope for 2008. Instead, he's one of the Republicans most likely to lose. When Republicans win the White House, they do it by getting crossover votes from conservative "Reagan Democrats." These are voters who like the Democrats on economic issues but are disgusted by the Democrats' embracing of liberal social issues. What is Rudy Giuliani? He's a Republican who has a reasonably conservative record on economic issues and is socially liberal. He loses the votes of these "Reagan Democrats" on all parts of his message.
If Rudy Giuliani wins the nomination, he will lose the general election. He holds extremist liberal views on abortion. He holds extremist liberal views on gun control. His refusal to cooperate with INS on deporting illegal aliens is part of the attitude of leniency that led a police officer to let one of the 9-11 hijackers go free after stopping him on a traffic violation and seeing that he was past his time on a visa. Wearing a dress once wouldn't necessarily keep people from voting for him, but his doing it so many times makes him appear to be another liberal fruitcake. All of these things will cause him to lose the votes that a Republican needs to win the general election.
To make matters worse, many of the people who will refuse to vote for him will be discouraged and will stay home rather than vote. Their staying home means that the GOP will not have the votes needed to retake Congress. Rudy Giuliani will be a disaster to the GOP on all levels.
If we love our country and believe that the Republican party offers the best path forward for the country, we will not support Rudy Giuiani.

Really? I'll tell ya, personally, The Screech becoming President is my worst nightmare. Followed by Al Gore Being President. Follow that up with John Murtha becoming President.
In fact, I would toss just about every Democrat, Socialist, Green, Communist, Aryan National, Ku Klux Klansman and member of the touring company of Cats into that catagory before I would do the same with Rudy Giuliani.
Speaks to priorities, I guess.
I agree with your sentiment, but Norris Hall is a classroom, lab, and office building. Norris Hall is not a dormitory at all. As far as we know, no one saw Cho in the dormitory (Ambler-Johnson). I know it's a small point, but it's a mistake that bothers me when I hear people making it.
Otherwise, I agree completely. If a grad student in one of the labs were carrying, he could have come upstairs with his firearm ready. If Dr. Granata had been armed, he would have had an excellent chance of stopping Cho. Dr. Granata's military training likely would have made him much better in armed combat than some evil-crazed kid. He probably recognized the sound of gunfire and responded to try to save lives. If he'd only had the right tools, maybe the incident could have ended sooner.

Things are easy to say. Proving them however often proves to be difficult. Not that you're the type to be bothered with trivialities like proof or even truthfulness.
I've stated my voting record here on FR many, many times, and you're the first and perhaps only poster to have found it liberal.
The gun control issue is the canary in the coal mine. Was this country established for individual liberty and freedon, or was it established so politicians could rule over their subjects. I know which camp Rudy falls into and I don’t want to be his little slave boy.
Don’t I know it. Rudy treated the law abiding and the crooks with the same iron fist.
