Plain talk with comedian Paul Rodriguez (Hispanic Comedian on Illegal Immigration)
Dallas Morning News ^ | Thursday, April 19, 2007 | LORRIE IRBY JACKSON

Posted on 04/20/2007 7:40:43 AM PDT by pillut48

"Q:The illegal immigration issue is a hot-button topic right now; how is that being handled in the Latino entertainment community?"

R:"I disagree with my Hispanic brothers. You cannot serve two gods. You cannot have dual citizenship of Mexico and the same for America. I am American; God forbid that we go to war with Mexico, because I know which way I'll point the gun. "If Mexico is so good," I tell them, "why leave?"

My parents left because they were starving. I am grateful to this country, and I will lay my life down for it. I feel that if you're in America illegally, you've got two options: You fix your status and get legit, or leave. We should be more in favor of deportation than the non-Latinos, but my brothers don't feel like that.

What part of illegal don't they understand? Think about it: Both political parties are talking about reform, but that's just what it is – talk. We're a nation of immigrants, but there's a right way and a wrong way to do things."

He gets it!! :-)

Wonder how many of his 'brothers & sisters' would call him a bigoted racist who hates Mexico for his remarks here?

Mod, can you fix this?—sorry ‘comedian’ is misspelled, I cut and pasted from the DMN website and didn’t notice until after I hit post!

I think it is encouraging that people like him, who actually have a platform in the U.S. and in the Spanish media, are saying things like this. He gets cinco estrellas del oro. Of course, the MeCha people will probably make him live to regret it. He also is really funny.

I thought it said “commodian” and expected an article about Harry Reid.

It’s nice to see an article like this.

It should also serve as a reminder to whomever is in NEED of a reminder that the issue is not and should not be LEGAL immigration but of course illegal immigration.

Misspelling isn’t your fault. It’s the actual title of the article. (very sad)

I am American; God forbid that we go to war with Mexico, because I know which way I'll point the gun.

We are at war, albeit a non-traditional one. Mexico's main weapon? Demographics. And since the majority of American politicians are on the side of the enemy victory (for Mexico) is pretty much assured.

"If Mexico is so good," I tell them, "why leave?"

A question that (not surprisingly) usually goes unanswered.

Kudos to Rodriguez for telling it like it is.

Yeah, but I should have proofed better before posting!
[hangs head in shame]

No major harm done, I suppose. But I bet a bunch of lurkers think I’m a misspelling idiot. ;-)

There were a few typos in that article. Besides "commedian," the article says Rodriguez is a native of Sinaola, Mexico. The correct spelling of the city is Sinaloa.

I'll report the Dallas Morning News to the spelling police. ;^)

Thank you! :-)

I only get the DMN when my daughter’s in karate or dance class and I have time to kill—we used to have a subscription, but the paper is so blatantly leftist and Bush-hating most of the time we gave up on it.

Appreciate the support. Give’em heck, DD! :-)

From the article:
Right before his Latin Kings of Comedy show stopped in Dallas, the affable comedian and single father of two spoke by phone from Los Angeles about the comedy tour, Michael Richards' professional meltdown, and his surprising take on illegal immigration and stardom.
Why is his take on illegal immigration be considered surprising? While I know it's not, I'd hope that this would be the view held by all American citizens, both naturalized and native-born.

Would that every American citizen felt this way.

I am American; God forbid that we go to war with Mexico, because I know which way I'll point the gun.

Those people moving here, legally or illegally, are not doing it for the love of a new country to which they'll pledge allegiance.

As an example, I'm an American who married an Ecuadorian lady. My wife and all of her family applied for citizenship and they all became "citizens". Many years ago, when the whole family was gathered and we were having a political discussion, I asked them point blank about which side they would be on if the U.S. and Ecuador ever went to war against each other. Some of them were doubtful about which side they would choose, but some of them said they would fight on Ecuador's side, stating that they owed their allegiance to their mother country. Never mind that everything they have and their great lifestyles are all due to the good old USA.

That drove me crazy and I never brought it up again. I'm still in disbelief.

"Why is would his take on illegal immigration be considered surprising?"

He appeared on Bill Maher's "Politically Incorrect" about ten years ago arguing for the Mexican conquest of the Southwest. The opposing panelists were Bob Dornan and Bo Derek. (Yes, there were actually two conservatives on this episode.)

My parents left because they were starving

While the villainous Mexican leadership sneers and laughs at them, rolling in the billions that they take by intimidation and violence.

People starve in a country that currently houses the second richest man on Earth, and half the billionaires in Latin America.

And we're supposed to sit back and let those guys push their victims into our country so that a rebellion against their thugocracy doesn't happen?

Better idea: turn all the illegals in this country into an army and lead them back into Mexico to tear apart the hideous feudal regime that still holds there.

This is surprising because in the past Rodriguez has been very pro-illegal immigration from what I remember. If this had been Carlos Mencia, it would not have been surprising.
