Many Americans Miss Bill Clinton
Angus Reid Global Monitor ^ | April 20, 2007

Many adults in the United States long for the mandate of a previous head of state, according to a poll by Opinion Research Corporation released by CNN. 53 per cent of respondents miss former U.S. president Bill Clinton now that he has left the White House.

In the survey, 96 per cent of African-American respondents say they miss Clinton, while 50 per cent of White Americans say they are glad he has left.

Clinton—a Democrat and former governor of Arkansas—won the 1992 U.S. presidential election. His campaign was largely based on a condemnation of the economic recession of the early 1990s. In 1996, Clinton became the first Democrat to serve two terms as president since Franklin Delano Roosevelt, winning 49.2 per cent of all cast ballots and 379 electoral votes. Clinton’s last term in office was tarnished by his admission of an extra-marital affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

During his presidency, Clinton called the racial divide in the U.S. "America’s constant curse." In July 2001, Clinton decided to move into a new office in Harlem, a largely African-American neighbourhood in New York City. The president said on his first day at the office he would make Harlem his home, and explained: "What I’m going to do here is to try to help promote economic opportunity in our back yard, in our country and around the world."

In January, former first lady and current New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton officially launched her bid for the Democratic Party’s nomination in the 2008 presidential election.

Outstanding analysis. You are absolutely correct. The ‘feel good’ media during the Clinton years had a lot to do with the perception people had about him and the way the nation was doing. The media also helped fuel the stock market imprudence during that time. Never underestimate the media’s influence on ‘consumer confidence’ and similar variables that contribute to the overall economic picture. That the economy has done as well as it has under Bush, despite the daily doom and gloom in the media, is testimony to how good the economic fundamentals have been under the Bush administration (don’t expect to hear that reported anytime soon).

I would offer that it is not really Bill Clinton that people miss. It is positive news coverage about our President that people miss. Positve news coverage about the state of our country and the nobility of our actions.

MSM this is your fault!!!! But then, you already knew that didn’t you.

If the sheeple in this “poll” love and revere this reprobate now when he is alive, just think how they will elevate and deify him when he dies. They already have pictures of JFK, RFK and MLK on their walls. This will be one more picture to add to the collection. (And I hope it isn’t this one!)

No, people don’t miss Bill Clinton, people miss the cheerfulness in the media. All during the Clinton years the media was perpetually in a good mood.

Exactly. People miss the "peace dividend" 90's that emboldened our enemies and lulled the public into complacency.

Bill Clinton was the house party when the parents were away on vacation.

George W Bush is like the parents coming back home.

Apparently, the press allows the American public to forget the half a million a month penthouse office Clinton first wanted to use as his “office.” Only when there was such an outcry from the taxpayers who would foot the bill, did Bubba move his digs to Harlem.

Pure bosh! The guy never got more than 47/48% of the vote (43% the first term). Clintonian propaganda.

“Are they out of their minds?”

Probably, but I don’t think they miss Clinton per se. What these sheep are missing is the calm before the present storm of wars and deadly weather related disasters. They preceive the Clinton years the years of peace and prosperity. Their heads are in the sand. They would be no war in Iraq and Afghanistan if Clinton wasn’t busy getting his “knob” polished in the Oval Office.
