The Committee that Thompson chaired was the one that helped write CFR. We see what an attempted First-Amendment infringement fiasco CFR turned into.

What does that say about Thompson's capability for developing legislation? He was for it, before he was against it?

FReepers were all over Kerry for such flipflopping, yet many of them seem more than willing to give Thompson (and the other GOP potential candidates) passes from their newly-revised-finger-in-the-wind changes in their political views.

Ah, the old 'flip-flop' argument. No, Thompson has not flip-flopped. He still strongly favors trying to clean up campaign financing, but he now realizes that McCain-Feingold isn't the right way to do it.

Do I wish he'd have realized this before? Yes. Would I prefer he had come to the conclusion on Constitutional grounds rather than effectiveness (or lack thereof)? Of course.
