Killings of Afghan Civilians Recall Haditha
The New York Times ^ | April 20, 2007 | PAUL von ZIELBAUER

Posted on 04/20/2007 5:16:45 AM PDT by RedRover

After it became clear last year that several marines had killed 24 civilians in Haditha, Iraq, following an attack on their convoy of Humvees, the Marine Corps, which had initially played down the massacre, began an offensive of a different kind.

Last May, Gen. Michael W. Hagee, the commandant of the Marine Corps at the time, went to Iraq to express deep concern to his marines and to reinforce what he called the "core values" that required them to respond to danger with thoughtful precision.

But almost a year later, marines killed at least 10 civilians in Afghanistan in an episode that bore some striking similarities to the Haditha killings and suggested that the lesson had not taken, even in a platoon of combat veterans wearing the badge of the elite new Marine Corps Special Operations forces.

The article goes on to say...

All marines get instructions on the laws of armed conflict, the Geneva Conventions and the rules of engagement, which require positive identification of hostile intent before shooting. But General Kearney's month-long investigation seems to indicate that those rules were violated by an elite unit, military officers said.

Seems to indicate... is iron-clad proof as far as our enemy within is concerned.

I e-mailed the sniveling scribbler who wrote this crap to remind him the Haditha Marines only got make-believe convictions in the media. The facts have yet to be established about Haditha and now this case as well.

The NYT scribbler's name sure sounds like some weirdo Nazi General from a 1950's B-Movie.

We should send a surge MSM journalists in the street of Baghdad. Suicide bombers are the only thing they deserve.

They are useless here.

This crap makes me crazy...

...the tone, the lack of substance, the obvious agenda, and finally the lack of considering our Marine combatant's perspective.

I can imagine the sanctimonious smirk of the author when penning this trash. Worse, think of the orgasmic glee of the loyal flock of NYT readers when reading and having all of their hopes and dreams for the war fulfilled.

As the marines did in Haditha, those on patrol in Afghanistan began shooting at civilians in reaction to an attack, in this case a suicide bomber who drove into their convoy

I'll write the weasel a little note today as well.

So the Haditha Marine massacre has now become the standard to compare any supposed impropriety to by the NY Slimes.

The Art. 32 hearings haven't even taken place and the Slimes and their slimy writers can't wait to make the comparison. Words fail me, I cannot see how they disguise their bilge as jounalism.

From the article, ...”All marines get instructions on the laws of armed conflict, the Geneva Conventions and the rules of engagement, which require positive identification of hostile intent before shooting. But General Kearney’s month-long investigation seems to indicate that those rules were violated by an elite unit, military officers said.”.....

But then the article goes on to say, ...”Marine Corps officials said the unit, whose members undergo at least four months of specialized military training, did not receive specific values training addressing the lessons of Haditha.”....

Well, I guess they didn’t get the memo,

As Vietnam fades into the dim past these jerks need a new standard to go after our troops. Mai Lia no longer holds the effect it once did. The new generations will need new black marks the L/MSM can conjure up.
