McCain sings 'bombs' to Iran

Republican 2008 presidential hopeful John McCain crooned the words "Bomb Iran" to a Beach Boys' tune in joking response to a question about any possible US attack over Tehran's suspected nuclear weapons programme.

"That old Beach Boys song, bomb Iran...bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb," the Vietnam War veteran warbled softly to the band's Barbara Ann when he was asked when the United States would send an "airmail message" to Iran.

The singing performance during a campaign stop on Wednesday in South Carolina drew chuckles from the audience and has already been viewed almost 11,000 times on the internet video sharing site YouTube after being posted on Thursday.

Campaign spokesman Matt David said the question was asked somewhat in jest and that the Arizona senator was adding some levity to the discussion.

The United States and others have accused Tehran of seeking nuclear weapons, a charge Tehran denies. While US officials have refused to take the military option off the table, they have said there were no plans to attack Iran and they would pursue a diplomatic solution.

McCain also gave a serious answer focusing on Iran's nuclear ambitions and desire to destroy Israel.

"It bothers me a great deal that they (Iran) might have a nuclear weapon or a missile, but it bothers me also to have a nuclear weapon knowing their relationship with various terrorist organizations, that they would give it to a terrorist organisation," McCain said.

McCain's run for the White House, his second, has experienced some difficulties. He was third among Republicans in raising money during the first quarter, $US12.5 million, and has been spending it as a faster clip than many candidates.

I love a sense of humor... and I want a politician to be 'real'.

However, McCain has lost it.

It really gives a little insight on how he reacts now when the walls are starting to cave.

I think McCain was making a cultural reference to 1978 when every morning zoo show had their own version of “bomb Iran” on the air.

The problem is we didn't do it. Imagine how things would be different now if we'd have taken out the Ayatollah in 1979?

That old Beach Boys song...Barbara Ann...

Barbara Ann was originally a Regents song from 1961.

He was making a little tastless joke about the maniacs who are arming themselves with nuclear weapons to wipe out the world.

You need not be amused. But do you think a laugh or two at the expense of these heartless bastards is a big deal?

Of course he won’t be President. And you won’t win any awards for having an adult perspective on these trying times either.

McCain was using a play on words in reference to the famous Beach Boys' song Barbara Ann:

A Bar bar bar bar Barbara Ann

Bar bar bar bar Barbara Ann

(Bar bar bar bar Barbara Ann)

Substitute Bomb for bar and Iran for Ann.

"Stop with all the PC nonsense."

PC has nothing to do with it...

Common sense and judgment do...

Some things are smart to say in public... some are not.

Then of course if you don't care what anyone thinks, you can say just about anything, anywhere. Just don't expect to be elected POTUS.

It reminds me of Reagan when he thought he was off the air and joked that he had just signed legislation to outlaw the Soviet Union, saying "The bombing starts in five minutes."

The Soviets actually had nuclear weapons. They actually could destroy the world. Lighten up. It's a joke.

For someone named Kabar, a predictable response.

Totally clueless ,mirthless, rule-based alien...ya just will not ever get it.

But then, no one expects you to. There’s not even an opening where the slot for the receptacle might be.

And just what do you think Kabar means? I will tell you what it isn't, a knife. You assume so much and know so little.

Totally clueless ,mirthless, rule-based alien...ya just will not ever get it.

Are you describing yourself, Mr. Spock?

But then, no one expects you to. There’s not even an opening where the slot for the receptacle might be.

LOL. Just a non-stop ad hominen attack. You didn't address my example of Reagan. Was it OK for him to make such jokes?

You’re spitting.

“ad hominem”...use your spell-checker.

All wrapped up in your self-importance.

The guilty dog...barking first.

utter cluelessness.

Mc Cain may sing but Bush is moving forward to bomb Iran

It is the only "negotiation" people like Ahmadinejad will understand.

However your new tack...turning away from your obsessive passion over the West Va tragedy, might be a sign that your meds are kicking in.

You are showing less signs of being an irrational racist now than before...a lot less racist...about the same ammount of “irrational”...but who’s keeping score?

No one has removed your computer priviledges, yet.

"West Va tragedy?" I am not aware of that one. Did it involve a coal mine? Who is the one supposed to be on "meds?"

Your comments are becoming more disjointed and unintelligible.

"Privileges" --use your spell-checker.

LOL. You really are in a dither now. You can have the last word. Cheers.
