Republican 2008 presidential hopeful John McCain crooned the words "Bomb Iran" to a Beach Boys' tune in joking response to a question about any possible US attack over Tehran's suspected nuclear weapons programme.
"That old Beach Boys song, bomb Iran...bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb," the Vietnam War veteran warbled softly to the band's Barbara Ann when he was asked when the United States would send an "airmail message" to Iran.
The singing performance during a campaign stop on Wednesday in South Carolina drew chuckles from the audience and has already been viewed almost 11,000 times on the internet video sharing site YouTube after being posted on Thursday.
Campaign spokesman Matt David said the question was asked somewhat in jest and that the Arizona senator was adding some levity to the discussion.
The United States and others have accused Tehran of seeking nuclear weapons, a charge Tehran denies. While US officials have refused to take the military option off the table, they have said there were no plans to attack Iran and they would pursue a diplomatic solution.
McCain also gave a serious answer focusing on Iran's nuclear ambitions and desire to destroy Israel.
"It bothers me a great deal that they (Iran) might have a nuclear weapon or a missile, but it bothers me also to have a nuclear weapon knowing their relationship with various terrorist organizations, that they would give it to a terrorist organisation," McCain said.
McCain's run for the White House, his second, has experienced some difficulties. He was third among Republicans in raising money during the first quarter, $US12.5 million, and has been spending it as a faster clip than many candidates.
Forget singing about it, DO IT !!!
I thought McCain’s response was a nice touch!
action speaks louder than words.
Bomb talk from a campaign that’s bombing.
Anybody But McCain.
I don’t think McCain would be a very good president, but I’d like to think that, as CIC ... we’d re-gain some BMOC status on the planet.
Anybody But McCain.
I second that, he’s the Madhatter of the bunch IMO.
Bump!
Too little, too late.
I think McCain was making a cultural reference to 1978 when every morning zoo show had their own version of “bomb Iran” on the air. He should have ended with “Remember that one?”
Actions speak louder than words but at least he is saying the words, that is a start.

Is there any doubt?
Anything for a dollar. This coming from the man who worked hard to undermine everything President Bush tried to do for the last 7 years.
McNotSane for president.
That’s how I took it. Remember the flyer with Mickey Mouse giving the fickle finger to Iran?
Mc Cain may sing but Bush is moving forward to bomb Iran :
Loyola, former Pentagon expert :
“The United States already has two aircraft carriers in the neighborhood the USS Stennis and the USS Eisenhower to which the French recently added one of their own. The USS Nimitz battle group sets sail for the Gulf from San Diego next week; and the USS Ronald Reagan is in the South China Sea and can be added to the strike force at a moments notice.
The opening move of the endgame will be signaled when the Pentagon announces the forward deployment of about 20 strategic bombers B-1s, B-2s, and B-52s to Diego Garcia just a few hundred miles south of the Persian Gulf. My bet is that this will happen when Iran expels the IAEA inspectors.”

Look, I’ve been critical of McCain in the past, but GET OFF HIS BACK! If this were a Democrat you would not have ever heard of it.
The guy made a innocuous joke. Stop with all the PC nonsense. Reagan joked about bombing Russia. It was a joke!
Get a life!!
Local news this morning claims that McCain is considered the front runner in the Republican party for president. Take it for what’s it worth, but I took it as a slam on the party.
