Gun Laws Kill
Human Events ^ | 04/20/2007 | Michael Reagan

Posted on 04/20/2007 3:46:34 AM PDT by IrishMike

Thirty-two fine young men and women are dead and that is a huge tragedy. It is also, however, a tragedy that the death toll could have been substantially lower if it were not for an absurd law that kept the students and faculty from exercising their Constitutional right to protect themselves and others by bearing arms on campus.

Thanks to that law a madman was able to confront the men and women at Virginia Tech secure in the knowledge that he was armed while his victims were unarmed and defenseless.

One of those victims used the only weapon he had to protect his students. Liviu Librescu, a man who survived both the Nazi Holocaust and Communist tyranny in his native Romania, used his body as a defensive weapon against the madman’s assault, putting his shoulder to the door to keep the killer from getting into the classroom while his students fled though the windows. ........................................................

In Virginia, any adult who has a lawfully issued permit to carry concealed weapons anywhere in the state remains prohibited from protecting himself while on a state campus thanks to the defeat of the proposed law that would have allowed them the same rights they had off-campus while on-campus.

The very fact that the state considers a person capable of carrying a concealed handgun by their very act of granting a permit should demonstrate that the state believes that the permit holder can be trusted to use that handgun only for self-protection.

It is patently absurd to judge sane, normal people as being incompetent and untrustworthy to bear arms while blithely ignoring the obvious truth of the old saying that when good people are legally disarmed, only bad people will have guns.

defeat of the proposed law that would have allowed...

That just seems so wrong. Sigh.

Why not just tie the victims to a stake like sheep. At least there would be no pretense that you are being protected by the campus police.

Thanks to that law

Actually it's not a law, it's a VT policy. According to VA law those students are perfectly within their rights to carry concealed weapons on the campus.

VT, however, has said their policy is to expel any student caught legally carrying a firearm.

The ‘law’ was proposed to eliminate the ‘policy’, or any other ‘policy’ from prohibiting legal carry.

Which is just wrong.

You shouldn’t need no stinking law.

You’re right, but on that campus that’s the law, too bad for the sheep.

Yea, I guess that whole 'gun free zone' thingy didn't quite work out the way they intended.

Pity.

We need a slight tweaking of the right to bear arms so liberals will understand it.

When I’m around crazy liberals, I’m going to start calling the right to bear arms a human rights issue, where every individual has the human right to defend himself and others, especially children, against harm. I bet if I look around in the UN’s soft law decrees, I can find a passage and argue that the UN supports self defense and therefore armed individuals.

I live in IL and let's just say I do what I think needs to be done.

I was born in OH and lived there until I was 12. Nice part of the country.

“Actually it’s not a law, it’s a VT policy.”

We’re having the same argument in my state. We have a concealed carry law in effect, but our liberal colleges have refused to allow it on campus. Fortunately, our lawmakers told the state colleges they are state property and will abide by the law. The colleges are in the process of appealing and still fighting. This VT thing will energize the dialog I’m sure.

I have a TN carry permit and carry a certain object in my glove compartment. Naturally, when crossing Illinois, I always remove it and put it in my luggage, in accordance with the same principles you adhere to.

Looks like choosing a university that allows concealed carry and insuring your higher right to live than a mass murderer should become a pre-enrollment decision each student should start making in this country.

Though too late for many students at VT to make, it's not too late for the rest of them to leave and never set foot on campus again. Let the f***ing death camps go the way of the gas ovens.

Let it be a lesson for any organization or business in the country that thinks less of the lives of its clientele than it does a killer's freedom to pick and choose its victims at will.

Better keep up with the times, folks. 'Happy Days' here are over for a while.

The real problem is for some people this is old news.

Mary Carpenter seems like a regular prophet.

Best regards,

Before the Virginia Tech shooting two of Mary Carpenters grandchildren were murdered by a pitchfork wielding maniac.

Mary Carpenter In Her Own Words about gun control:

Mary Carpenter's letter to the North Carolina General Assembly:

All the gun laws you can imagine cannot change the heart of a killer and you know it.

Until man's heart is changed, we will be like sheep led to the slaughter without our weapons of defense.

May you stand before God and man as my two precious grandchildren's killer if you pass any more gun legislation that will make me a felon should I own a handgun or any other gun for that matter.
