Summation of Virginia Tech killer's ties to Islam

The following are ties Cho had to Islam. They are not offered as proof of anything, but merely to prompt consideration or disproof of any links.

Cho’s father lived in Saudi Arabia as a young, single man. His sister works for a State Department contractor which oversees billions of dollars of aid for Iraq. Previously, she worked in Bangkok. (1)

Both of Cho’s plays are about sexual abuse. (2) Bangkok is a city famous for its sex trade, which caters especially to Muslim businessmen.

Cho’s rampage was on Holocaust Remembrance day. Although probably a happenstance, one of the professors he killed was a Jewish holocaust survivor. (3)

Cho used the pseudonym Ismael Ax. Ismael (or, Ismail) is the son of Abraham who became the ancestor of all Arabs, as opposed to Israel who became ancestor of all Jews (4). Although there are many Western references to this person, and many literary characters named “Ishmael,” that spelling is Hebraic. “Ismael” or “Ismail” is uniquely Arabic. Ismaili is also a branch of Shiite Islam (5)

In each play, Cho’s characters rant about the horrible decadence of American life. Targets include McDonalds, the Roman Catholic church, Michael Jackson and the NFL. (2).

Cho is from Fairfax County, Virginia. This is also the home of 1 in 8 Virginians, but it is also the home of Yong Ki Kwon, a 29-year-old graduate of Virginia Tech, who, like Cho, is also from South Korea. Kwon was convicted of terrorism, one of the so-called “paintball Jihadis,” who practiced massacres with paintball guns. (6)

Are you now being, or have you been, treated at a mental health facility?

If not, why not?

As I read more and more posts by those seeking to discredit the well stated POV you have captured here, my conclusions are that:
* The idea of a merger between “lone nutball” type crimes and terrorism is an incredibly uncomfortable possibility for most people
* Although this is a conservative site, and we all ought to know better, many here have kids in college (based simply on demographic realities regarding the Baby Boom) and don’t want to beleieve just what sorts of dark and evil things today’s campus environment might foster
* Many people are too narrowly focused on a highly specific MO involving formal membership in terror groups, radical Wahabism or Shi’ism, etc - when in fact, radicals and revolutionaries come in all sorts of flavors and the flavor set is ever growing.

None of these are comfort producing, them imply an increasing and out of control level of violence and destruction, coming from unexpected quarters. Easier to post photos of tin foil hats than to entertain any serious discussion of this.

Interesting observations. He had a reddish area on his forehead. Has this been explained? It is too early to dismiss his ties to Islam. Has he been out of the country since he first arrived? I heard that students at his high school were forbidden to talk to the media, but I doubt this is true.

Why did Cho kill himself?

He heard Fred Thompson was within 300 miles of VA Tech.

This guy reminds me more of the Japanese neo-fascist author who committed ritual suicide a decade or so ago than a follower of Mad Mo. But all possibilities should stand particularly since this type of attack is what I had believed al Queda would be staging across the country. That belief was squealched after I concluded it concluded that such attacks would only unify the nation around the President, the last thing al Queda wants. It is desperate for Democrat victories knowing that is the only way it can win.

My dad lived in Saudi Arabia.

I once lived in Egypt.

I do not like Michael Jackson and have ranted about him on occasion.

I once played paintball with a guy from Pakistan.

My next door neighbor’s brother in law’s third cousin works for Halliburton in Iraq.

Should I now expect the ATF and FBI and CIA to kick in my front door and send me and my entire family to Gitmo?

The strategy of the Black Muslims (Nation of Islam) was to explicitly recruit in prisons. Still is.

My opinion was that he was or mimicked a terrorist. I think as more information will be released, the muslim connection will be evident.

That is an intersting photo. For some reason Nostradamus and Edgar Casey come to mind. One of the other prophecied the assasination of Kennedy down to the day mentioned the ISML AX in the prophecy.

No, but when you rename “Mustafa” and kill 32 people, I will wonder if the Muzzies got to you. I don’t recall anyone ending any of Cho’s family to Gitmo.
